This almost, (actually slightly) pisses me off. Considering I just bought my new 360 a month ago, I'd've held off for this.

Oh well. At least I get to play it again now anyway.

@(Unverified) Did you keep the recipt? You can always return it. Some stores have pretty liberal return policies. I owned my first 360 for 89 days and was able to return it when it started freezing.

Yeah, I bought my Xbox 360 Elite a month ago also, but at least I got it for $220 new.

@Kadamon That's why I never make a console purchase in the month or two before E3. Hopefully you can take it back or resort to selling it online.

Here is to hoping that once the "Xbox 360 Original" sells out that the "New Xbox 360" will be lowered in price!

I certainly hope so, because it sounds like they just did away with the $199 price point entirely.

so what we really got today is a $100 price increase on the 360 because they aren't going to have any other sku's just the single $299 with with the arcade going away. look at me I am so excited. oh wait no I am not. prices are supposed to be dropped at events like E3 not raised.

I guess that's true, depending on how you look at it. You could also look at it the other way and say that you're getting more for $100 less, since the top Elite costs $400. Either way, I need a new 360 so this is good news for me.

Yeah, this is the first thing that came to my mind. My warranty is gone, and the thing is on it's last leg, so I was gonna buy a new one rather than pay for the repair. Not sure I want to pay another $100 though. Still, the 250 gig and wireless make it good deal if you don't have one yet.

the problem with this is one, not everyone wants wifi, a lot of gamers like wired connections. microsoft and their prices of what they deem a good value for hd size is and has always been a joke. they charge way to much for hard drives separately and in the console differences.

on top of that the problem is natal. unless it comes out at a really reasonable price the price to get natal or excuse me kinect or whatever its called goes up $100 overall if there is no arcade version. kinect looked mediocre at best today and i was hoping that microsoft or sony would be able to attract wii gamers. what we learned today is it won't be microsoft. guess sony is the last chance for someone to be able to dethrone the sd wii.

A dangerous game with Kinect not built in. If they want to woo Wii owners, I don't think a single SKU with a Wii-style add-on at extra cost is a wise move.

Reminds me of a bow tie from the front there. Looking good. Will be (hopefully) more quiet than the leaf blower-like full size 360. Pity it seems like they did not go to a standard SATA 2.5" hard drive.

I'm looking forward to a full teardown of one of these to see a full list of changes.

I'm glad they are phasing out the Pro and Arcade models.

Sony doesn't have a PS3 for under $299.99 for sale, neither should Microsoft.

@BoBsS The reason I bought a 360 over a PS3 was the $199.99 price point. It's much easier on a single income family if the consumer can purchase the expensive console in parts. I actually paid more for my 360 than a PS3 would cost, but the benefit of buying each $100.00+ part at my convienance outweighed the cost difference. The Wii is no different. Wii + Peripherals runs about $100.00 more than a single PS3, but you don't have to pay the whole $400.00 at once, so it doesn't "hurt" as bad as a PS3 purchase (or now a 360 slim) might.

Also, one of the reasons I bought a 360 over a PS3 is because I could replace it cheaply by picking up an Arcade model and swapping my 120GB HDD. That option is gone now also. So, in order to overtoke the Wii, Microsoft decided to emulate the PS3 formula... Cause the PS3 is doing so well...

I noticed on some comments that some people really dislike the look of the slim. I generally don't care about the look of the console. I guess I could grow to like this one more than the current fat. All I really care about is reducing or nearly eliminating the failure rate. Just my opinion.

At this time in the PS2 lifecycle, Sony was selling the PS2 slim at $149. And about half of all PS2s were sold at $149 or less. There's no way the 360 can expect to emulate the PS2's level of success if Microsoft is still selling the 360 at $299. Now is the 360+Kinect ($449 combined?) going to compete with the Wii at that price.

That's a difficult comparison because you have to consider the differences in hardware between the PS2 and the 360. The PS2 slim was so successful because it ended up being under $200.

I really expected a price cut for the slim model. An Elite comparable slim at $250 would take a big ding out of possible PS3 buyers.

I know this was said before but I'd still like to hear how the they'll handle warranted console breakdowns.

That and as long as my system works and can be repaired; I don't need another 360. Just another hard drive.

Sony could drop the price, the PS3 was right around the corner. This is a different situation. Microsoft isn't releasing an entirely new console, it's just a revision.

As a PS3 owner who has always wanted a 360 system as well to gain the best of both arguably amazing console experiences and now that this new version is bundled with WiFi capability and the like, I might consider purchasing a 360 slim.

I have always wanted to give Left 4 Dead a spin, along with other titles, and most of my friends have Xbox so I get tired of hearing them chat about last nights online match, I'd like to join in!
