The Network sounds like a subdivision of Aperture Science.

@That Burning Sensation
I was 109 as well. I sometimes wonder what the average age of the joystiq reader is according to those videos.

Damn, that's looking pretty cool so far.

Definitely going to keep my eyes out for this one.

The last room of Black was one of the most fun times I've ever had playing an FPS, so this is definitely on my radar.

Doesn't sound too promising. If you are going to come out with a FPS, you need to set yourself apart. Being subpar and going with the flow doesn't cut it anymore.

I think they're trying to make it different from the norm with different motives, different visuals, and a different attitude. Maybe they haven't achieved all they've planned, but as the video says, it's pre-alpha; there's a long way to go.

I get the feeling that all you read was the final paragraph.

"Heavily influenced by Alias?"

You mean you play a sexy female spy with a number of disguises trying to find the creations of a historical inventor in the quest for immortality?

No, didn't think so.

There were spies and the spy genre before Alias appeared you know.

The only thing I took away from that trailer was it kinda cool how much dust and debris gets kicked up from gunfire. Crackdown orbs made me go o_O. Everything else was bland city.

Yawn, ANOTHER first-person shooter announcement. It's getting to the point where if it's not first or third-person and "pushing the capabilities of the system", it's a "niche" genre that nobody wants to touch anymore outside of DLC or portables. A darn shame, because variety and real creativity are DYING on disc-based games this generation, a few standout titles notwithstanding.

@(Unverified) I hardly see how FPS/TPS games are a niche genre. Of the last few years, the biggest selling and most popular franchises have been shooters. When the non-gaming mainstream thinks of video games, they no longer think of Mario, it's Halo and Call of Duty.

I think that they are overplayed as well, and it takes something like a Bioshock or Portal to get my attention anymore; but to say nobody else likes them is just mad.

I meant to say that developers don't bother with much outside of three or four major genres anymore (first-person shooters, third-person action/platform games, casual/novelty, and sports); if you happen to have old-school tastes (JRPGs, turn-based strategy, puzzlers, and schmups, for instance) like me you're flat out of luck these days.

For some reason, the Gatling gun enemy has really stuck with me - his model reminds me of Brink. I'm looking forward to this.

Hmm, to really get the old-school comical shooter vibe, they'd need to not mess with that accuracy indicator >=(

Seriously, I just hate the way those things look. They make me want to just never shoot or move, so my reticle will stay the same.

Based on the interview I read on Joystiq.com (It's a website) I don't think Stewie Black is filling his games with meta messages.

Then again, some of the greatest media experiences are the ones where the viewer inserts their own narrative, so maybe it'll work out.
