@Ordeith.

I'm confused. How is this a bad sell? It's $50 a month for free games + bonus features I'm sure will be added.

Example: First month I pay $3, I get a $20 game + extra games. Next month I'm likely to get other games as well.

Assuming they add things like saving games to a cloud space, this service seems awesome at least for me. :\

@Ordeith $50 a month for free games?

For half that price you can have "free" games from Gamefly, except you can have any game you want.

Yep.
That's what got me. I was all for until that bombshell hit.
Sure it may be cheaper in the long run but unless they release the games for free on plus (or tell us that they're coming to plus the next month or something) at the same time as normal release, I might buy that game the usual way and then the benefit of my free game is gone!
And if I don't get to choose what free game it is that sucks.
Because, sure, if you get a $20 game each month that works out super cheap, even if you keep subscribed for the rest of your life, but it loses value if I only actually play 1 of the 12 free games I get.
What would be better IMHO is if, instead of them choosing, you just get a monthly allowance of dollars on your PSN account to buy whatever and then if you cancel you no longer have access to that content but that'd be ok and definitely worth staying subscribed.

As much as I don't like it I have to admit that free game a month is pretty good idea. I hope MS adopts something like this later on with XBLA games or some of it's games on demand games. It'll keep some of the older titles fresh by throwing the whole online community behind a classic game for a month...

Except you can still play online multiplayer for free, which is really the big argument here.

If it's one thing I hate about Xbox Live it's that I have to pay to take part in a component of the game that's already built into the game.

You always had to pay to get the most out of a Playstation.

But their free PSN service is ridiculously more feature packed than Xbox Silver. And their paid service is still lacking some features of Xbox Gold (though the converse is also true, and the PS+ is cheaper).

I resent the update feature not being free, though. That seems kinda like something that ought to be free and doesn't actually cost them much.

Dear Sony,
FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!
How much do you wanna bet that the AC: brotherhood beta is only for PSN+ subscribers. Dammit, why did they have to do this. This clearly isn't worth $50, but it's just annoying enough to piss people off. Stupid, stupid, stupid move Sony.

I don't see the value. They take away DLC and demos from non payers. Auto-patching really? The only thing that looks value added is the free games, depending on what they are.

If 4 dollars and some change each month is a major expense for you, you made a serious mistake investing in a nice TV and a PS3, and there's no way Sony was ever going to succeed catering to your needs. No offense intended, but they are in this to make a lot of money. More than $5 a month per Playstation user. Some people are not their target customer because they do not value this stuff as much as Sony wants to sell it for. But Sony is wise to move on to customers who are willing to pay for products, of course. That's the entire name of the game.

Demos are marketing. They want as many people to play a demo as possible, if they make one.

You will have a chance to play the demo. It will be later, though.

It's not like Sony is making a zillion bucks here. I love their first party titles and want them to be more profitable so this trend of the best games I've ever played continues. Sucks that demos are delayed, but I get it and if there's a demo for a game I'm not ready to buy, I will be able to play it eventually and make my choice.

I don't know. Zune Pass is pretty sweet.

I would have to continue my Zune Pass Subscription for 20 years to pay for what the music I have downloaded would have cost me on iTunes, and that is only if I don't download another thing in the next 20 years.

For me the value is solid.

I don't have a PS3 so I didn't know that game patches and updates weren't automatic. And now you have to pay for that...

I wonder if there will be deals to get this for less than $50 like you can with Xbox Live? That would definitely sweeten the pot.

Well, you still automatically are told you need to update when you want to play the game.

I think it's silly they would charge for the background installation and download of this stuff, too, but it's not like updates are hidden from the user.

Not much of an offer considering you can still play online without the service which is 90% of the reason for paying for XBL Gold.

Not that it mattered to me but I guess this officialy eliminates the possibility of XBL going free anytime soon.

Uh, it's not $50 a month, it's $50 a year or $18 for three months. If you go with the yearly price, it's $5 a month (rounded up).
