@(Unverified) I think if you base it on how megaton the announcement was, then.. probably.

That was the LAST thing I would've ever expected to see.

Yep.
I love that Kevin Butler was introduced to him as 'VP of sharpening things'

Also, even without that announcement, I still think Sony won E3.
Oh and Kevin Butler's section was so much win, so if you didn't watch it live, watch it when it's uploaded.

I actually think Nintendo did a better job than anyone this E3. They showed off some good stuff and are bringing updates to almost all their franchises.

You can't "win E3" merely for announcing that your version of a multiplatform game will be better than the others. Especially when PC gamers will still get the best version.

It's hard to over state my satisfaction!

@FredFredrickson
How dare you have that Icon and say that Nintendo actually had a better press conference... I demand that you change your Icon or forefit your testicals.

@(Unverified) You know he was paid to say this :

"the only console version featuring that functionality, actually -- providing the game with "auto updates, community features, downloadable content, and more."

When you know xbox have been doing these updates, DLC, community feat since 2001, yes including the first xbox did these. Such bullshittery by Valve.

God I hope not. A Valve "surprise" that only has to do with PS3 owners would be taking a dump on the people who pay their salaries every month - PC gamers.

They've let him put Steam on the PS3. It's an good move for Valve and one they probably held back on purely through technology issues.

Gabe did not say PS3 was the best version of Portal 2, he said it was the best console version. The PC version will still be the best version just as it always is with Valve games.

@MaceStation exactly. Not to make this a fanboy discussion, but it's obvious that the PC will remain their lead platform and for Portal there couldn't be anything better than mouse and keyboard. I think what he might have meant, is that playstation is supporting more of their advanced network requirements. Allowing access to cloud services, and possibly a more robust patching environment.

Valve and Microsoft don't have the same business plan when it comes to content patches.

dont get me wrong, I still love valves games, but we havnt heard anything new. What really gets me is that Valve isnt showing anything new. They are just bringing things to new formats. Where is the content?! I mean they canceled theyr big event just so Gabe could go out on the Sony stage and say hey portal 2 is coming to you guys too...

Wasn't it logical to assume Portal 2 would be, as well?

@st3v3n: The Orange Box was ported by EA, Valve talked about how terrible the port was, Gabe said the PS3 was a useless piece of crap, and neither Left 4 Dead game was for PS3.

So yeah, this is a surprise.

@st3v3n Guys...the "surprise" here is two fold, Valve is putting Steamworks on the PS3, which means Sony is opening up their platform...at least a little bit. Part of the reason Valve didn't support the 360 or PS3 version of the Orange Box was, basically, b/c neither would permit them to give away the updates for free like Valve wanted to. It would basically undermine the entire premise of Xbox-live, and to a lesser degree PSN, and some of the price-gouging that goes on there. This seems to change all that though. From what I am taking from this, w/ Steamworks being implemented on the PS3, Valve will be able to feed updates to their games on their own, and support their games more in the way they want to. THAT IS HUGE for the PS3, or any console, and really puts MS in a bad place, if of course, what I am reading between the lines is what's going to happen.

Yes, Gabe has repeatedly said he disliked the PS3 b/c he didn't care for the dev kit and thought it overly complicated and wasn't seeing the results he thought he should basically. And therein lies the "triumph" for Sony, he basically apologized and said that Sony has busted their ass and made things better. And that, combined w/ opening up their platform a bit more, makes up for it in spades.

It really is big for PS3 owners, I'd be psyched if I owned one and didn't have access to a fast computer to play these games on.

I'm willing to bet that this single game makes more money than everything you do in your entire life.

People do care about this kind of thing. If you think you can outdo this, just get out there and outdo it. Don't snipe these games because you don't value them. they still have tremendous value.
