GlaDOS introducing him, then Gabe walking out on stage was such a surprise. Normally, the surprises are unannounced games and things like that, but this year the biggest surprise was definitely Gabe walking out during Sony's conference and then declaring Portal 2 on the PS3 will be the best version.

Also, Kevin Butler giving that Braveheart-style speech was by far the best part of E3, which oddly enough, was also not game-related. Hm...

hands down PC is still the master of ALL consoles but this was the biggest surprise at E3 this year like FF13 comin to the 360 last year.

But Steamworks is not the same as Xbox Live. You're pretty much integrating Steam features into the game on PS3. Also, if it receives updates like the PC versions of Valve titles do, thats saying quite a bit. They would no longer have to go through Sony's red tape to update their games.
