I picked up Portal three times, once for Xbox 360, once for XBLA, and once for PC.

Best...however much that is I ever spent.

I picked up Portal for FREE from Steam when Valve was having their amazing promotion. Because of that, I discovered a great game. Can't wait for the 2nd to come out, it'll be a must-buy for me.

@chromekreeper I picked up Portal and the Orange Box for PS3 (I know, the worst version) for $40 I think 2 and a half years ago. About a month ago I redownloaded Portal for free on Steam. Huzzah!

What do you guys think of it being $60? Single player is going to be at least 4hrs, and the same for Co-op. But $60? The original was $10, and I'm not sure I'm going to want to Portal puzzle for 8hrs.

@Matt606 It's supposed to be a fully fledged game. They even say in the interview that because it's longer they are going to be able to introduce more gameplay mechanics for you to master. I'd wager it'll be around 12 hours for the single player which is perfectly reasonable at $60.

I think the single player will most likely be more than 4 hrs. I know the length of game is subjective to the players skill level and whatnot, but the first portal was around 4 hours and this has been advertised as being bigger and better. I'm guessing it'll be around the 6-7 hour range.(pure speculation). I think co-op should add another 3-4 hours to it.(also speculation). If they add something like creation tools so people can easily mod the game and make there own puzzles, effectively making the game have endless replayability I think it would be well worth the $60 admission. I think(read:hope) if they have all the things I have stated this would be a blast to play.

@Matt606 Game needs to be 3x as long as Portal and have some extra stuff (co-op, etc.) before I'd drop $60 on it

The original was (and still is) $20, and had 2-3 hours of single player gameplay. If the sequel both has a campaign twice as long and far more complex and whole seperate co-op campaign similarly long with matchmaking then I don't think the price is too much to ask.

If valve includes cross-platform matchmaking, steamworks, keyboard and mouse support, and community made map support I would easily buy this game twice, once on steam and once for the PS3.

Actually, they purchased that coding from them. Looks like they're making use of it like most thought Valve would... It sounds like you didn't know they bought them, or am I misreading?

@Vertimyst

This is Valve we're talking about. They make awesome games, but they obviously don't give a crap about release dates or updating their graphics. To answer your question, yes it's the same old source engine. Honestly, I don't mind since I'm not a graphics whore, but to use the same engine for over 5 years in this age of fast growing technology is pretty weird.

I love how I got downvoted for speaking common sense. It'd be like paying 60 dollars for COD4 today.

You should've at least gotten the Orange Box if you're gonna pay 20 dollars for a three year old game.

I read somewhere that when Valve made the source engine, they made it "Modular". That way they can update it incrementally. So for instance Half Life 2 used a 2004 Source engine, but when the Orange Box came out it used a 2007 version of the source engine. So presumably Portal 2 will used a 2010 version of the source engine with many updates since The Orange box.

I have complete confidence in the Stem, er, the Steam and the Valves. They will deliver the game and I will love it, as if contractually obligated by a higher being.

However, there have GOT to be hints and nods towards a future Half-Life game, if not a direct connection. It's been way too long, and its absence from this year's E3 only punctuates that hole in my heart.

Man, this sony+valve partnership, if done right, would make PSN much better than Xbox Live in so many ways I cannot begin to overstate my satisfaction.

Hey joystiq crew, next time you interview Doug or Gabe, focus on this partnership and what it'll come, because every interview I see people say that X thing is coming but can't confirm it. And also ask about if the Unreal 3 partnership with steamworks would also be available on the PS3 with games that utilizes it in the U3 engine.

And that would be one of the reasons they put it out for free.

I bought Team Fortress 2 for $50 two years ago. It came with several other games as a bonus, one of which was Portal. Best $50 I've ever spent. (I've clocked over 700 hours of (real, non-idling) playtime in TF2.)
