They said it was for college dorms so that your drunken frat enemies don't steal it.

Im not interested in strapping it down in my living room, but retailers will make use of this, along with those places where you pay to play video games.

@wario2295 I actually think it's a good deterrent, seeing as some fair amount of phat 360's have been stolen in the past, from break ins and whatnot.

On another note though: I'm wondering if Kinect's overall cost (the rumoured $149 price tag) is a direct correlation to the fact that the device ships with an external power supply unit to accommodate phat 360 owners. Albeit at a marginal rise....

that's a pretty good idea acutally, adding Kensington lock support that is. the question is will people use it though? i bought a Kensington lock for my laptop when i lived on campus. i accidentally locked it though and never got a chance to use it. not one of my prouder moments.

If I'm being honest, it's a good idea. The Wii at the youth club I'm involved with had the Wii stolen yesterday because someone forgot to lock/observe the area where the Wii was, and a kid took it. If the Wii had security, it could have at least not been worth stealing.

(I'm a Wii fan by the way so this isn't against the Wii)

@wario2295 Makes sense if you understand the chart. The real improvement that I can see with this is its connectivity with KINECT and an expandable storage capacity. And of course, the price of 299 :) Review. http://2su.de/Qjb

After much market research, they realized women don't really play videogames so it was deemed an unnecessary expense. Now we can afford built-in wi-fi!

Incapable of RROD because there is no red lights. They're so clever. Haven't had that happen in so long anyway.

GROD? Hmmmm. I might just bone up for a 360, it looks really sexy imo. I'll still wait six months to see if there are still hardware failure complaints. It's going to be hard for me to trust a Microsoft product after what they have done in the past.

Not only that, but maybe because a new Elite may be underway, no?
I don't think the xbox can get any sweeter than this, hardware-wise, but I wouldn't want to be caught off guard for an extra $50 (or 50€ for me)

Thanks Morgan for being a smartass :P I didn't bother looking it up because I thought it was some crazy complicated technological device inside the xbox hardware that I couldn't possibly understand and wanted someone on 'stiq to put it into layman's terms for me. Figuring out that it was just some dumb anti-theft device was pretty lame. Better than nothing I suppose :/

No, you don't need one. The port is only special because it eliminates the requirement to plug the kinect into a separate electrical outlet. With an old 360 you have to plug the kinect into a USB port and an outlet, but the "kinect port" on the new 360 provides power as well.

Yes.

If you connect it with USB, then you just have to use a power adapter for the Kinect. The Kinect Port on the new xbox saves you room on your power strip (and less wires, too).

Why the hell does it need one of those?
Is it for when Kinect comes out and they need it out on the floor.

There's no use for that type of thing at home.

kensington lock support is like lap tops kinda a way to chain down your gear. What i want to know is the volume of the disk drive when spinned up with a game in it. I know they say whisper quiet during dvd playback but that is at 1x speed. I want to know what the dB is on this thing with the disk drive spinning at the speed it runs games at versus the old console dB. That is the sell point for me

@shoan The old 360s were already pretty quiet when you had a game installed to the hard drive, so the new 360s are probably practically silent when you have a game installed to the hard drive.

Erm don't you mean that all the hands on have said it's a lot quieter? Some review says it's a problem now it's so quiet because of the new ring of light being crappy, they don't know if it's on or not compared to the old version which still makes my room rumble.

Stupid comment system! :/

@shoan i will probally go to gamestop and ask to hear it before i buy it. I just felt like they were trying to use symantics when talking about the drive noise I just don't trust that the drive is quieter. I belive that the console is quieter due to less fans but that is a whole other topic. In my heart I feel like the drive will suck just as bad and they are using PR speak to hide that it is just as bad.
