Check out the Twilight Princess-meets-Wind Waker aesthetics, and witness some of the new tools of Link's trade. Which is, of course, Ganon-slaying.

Am I the only one who thinks it looks like ass?
I mean seriously. I LOVED the cartoony graphics of windwaker. I LOVED the gritty graphics of Twilight princess. I LOVED the amazing graphics of ocarina of time at the time.
This new game looks like total ass.

@Special Agent Steve -
I have a theory on this. The darker color scheme in Twilight Princess made a lot of the textures look even more low res and muddy than they probably were. By going with a mix of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, they're able to create something that is a little more artistically styled than Twilight Princess, without going to the extremes of Wind Waker. Since they're using more primary colors, and much brighter colors, low res textures shouldn't be as much of a problem (see: any cel shaded game ever)
I'm not going to write off the art style until I see it in person. Personally, I think shelving the realistic art style until the Wii HD is a good idea. Once they have the graphical power, they can go back to Twilight Princess's art style.

Honestly I'm not sure about this graphic style either but that's probably just because its new to me.. I mean the concept of cel-shading Link without making his head look like an orange..
Idk but I definitely would not call it ugly, everything else looks great!!

I still don't understand why people sell entire consoles. I can understand a game that you may never play again, something I do rarely anyway, but a console? With hundreds if not thousands of titles, and potentially the next classic must-play around the corner? I still have my Dreamcast and PS1...

I liked how the crowd went wild when Majora's Mask showed up and then quieted down again when it went away.

There is going to be the same exact talk from the pre-Wind Waker days when people hated the style because it was too cartoony, or too silly for Zelda or whatever, then they're going to buy the game, love it, love it to DEATH, and when the next game comes out and displays a darker color scheme, they'll say "Good. It's great to see Zelda back at its roots."
Oddly enough, I'm going to check back on this comment back when 2011 rolls by and everyone has had their taste of Zelda: SS, just to see how accurate I was. Maybe I'll go back in time and give the me of now a high five for accuracy.

I think the problem was they wanted the colorful graphics style (Wind Waker), but the Adult Link (Twilignt Princess). Twilight's problem was that it was so dark and gloomy, and mostly brown.
Skyward Sword seems to be the best of both worlds (colorful but Adult Link).

Feels like a Twilight Princess-shaped adventure. Not particularly my favorite Zelda, but Zelda is never bad these days.
I kinda wish they'd do something as thought-provoking/dark as Majora's Mask again, but I can't really complain.

why did they make Link right handed after all these years? :(
Posted: Jun 16th 2010 4:10AM True Valk said
@(Unverified) To match the majority of people swinging the Wii-mote with their right hands. It would be awkward to swing with your right hand and Link swings with his left. They should make an option to make him left handed tho, for those lefties out there.

Don't worry, they'll flip the game for left handed users.

Zelda is Zelda as always
If it wasn't for Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kid Icarus and Epic Mickey I would have been greatly disappointed by Nintendo's conference. But honestly when is Nintendo going to unveil a new IP this gen? And no Wii Sports doesn't count.

As much as I love the Zelda franchise (I'm one of those people with a Triforce tattoo in plain sight) and as much as I fully enjoy playing each new Zelda, I can't help but wish it wasn't just the same exact game play over and over and over again with a different graphical layer on top.
It'd also be nice if Nintendo ever hired decent writers, or people who even cared about story. But whatreyagonnado? Buy Zelda anyway, enjoy it to death, then continue wishing. That's what I'll do, at least.

The whole point of the Legend of Zelda franchise is that every few games they re-tell the "Legend" in the series. The "Legend" is the tale of Link saving Princess Zelda from Ganon and collecting the Triforce. The first game, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess were this type of game (though some will argue that Ocarina of Time is a prequel to A Link to the Past, this is incorrect).
Then there's always the independent titles like Adventure of Link, Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker or Phantom Hourglass with their own plots and villains, each of which all tend to be a direct sequel to one of the "Legend" games.
With the Master Sword and Hylian Shield in plain view for Skyward Sword, I have a feeling this will be another re-telling of the "Legend." Final Boss will be Ganon(dorf). /spoiler

I love the graphics. It the best of both worlds. You have a mature style combined with more whimsical, classic Nintendo charmy style.
I'm dying to play this with the MotionPlus.

@ItsameMatt03 I fully agree about the graphics. The problem with Wind Waker wasn't that it was cartoony, the problem was that Link looked like a 4 year old.

This new game looks totally PLAYABLE.
Twilight Princess is a great and beautiful game, but it's also frequently hard to see what's going on in it in darker interior areas (of which there are many). This is largely because the Wii lacks HD capabilities, but what's done is done and that's the situation that this game has to work with.
This isn't based on vague memories, but on my replaying the first couple hours just tonight. When you're looking at graphics like that, you notice the Wii's shortcomings. When you play Wind Waker or Super Mario Galaxy, you don't.

I agree that going halfway between styles seems to lose something but I think this is the type of art naysayers will appreciate in the flesh. The sheen reminds me of Super Mario Galaxy a tiny bit.
