I can't recall a previous game that featured such high-fidelity cuttage - it looks so god damned awesome. I ain't no fancy programmer, but I imagine there's some crazy tech going to allow for that kind of slice-age.
I really hope there's a playable demo at PAX, but if there is, damn is it gonna be crowded.

Actually, the Afro Samurai game had almost the exact same slicing mechanic, though it didn't have the same level of detail.
...also you couldn't cut a truck in halWHAT THE HELL KONAMI!?

Afro Samurai would love to have a word with you.
There was achievements in the game for cutting off just their toes and fingers in one hit, or for getting certain combinations of body part "cards" off a select group of enemies.
Didn't hurt that the game was good too.

@Brockobama123 They showed the Kinect Star Wars game at the Microsoft conference, and it looked so dull and dumb after seeing THIS. Lucas is really gonna have to step up his game. Then again, probably not: the loyal fanboys will keep him afloat no matter how good the games are.

A Metal Gear game packed full of cut scenes? Joystiq, surely you jest.

Yep. Nothing says "Metal Gear Solid" like hacking and slashing and an almost total absence of stealth.

@(Unverified) You mean Tactical Espionage Action. Though your jumping the gun, I am positive there will be stealth elements.

This game fits perfectly with Raiden's storyline in MGS4, so if you are pulling the 'purist' card, think again, as I don't remember a whole lot of stealth happening there for him. I do, however, remember a lot of ridiculously over-the-top sword fights with robots. Like, 20 minutes of cutscenes devoted to it.

yeah man. im a huge MGS fan and im not digging this game at all. dont get me wrong , the game looks great and i bet a lot of people is going to like it but as a MGS fan im kind of turn off by the lack of stealth and the involvement of kojima. im just going to buy it to have it in my MGS collection.

But wouldn't it be kind of stupid if the focus was on stealth, given all the crazy antics Raiden is known for as of late?
I dunno, the whole thing is pretty esoteric and can be interpreted any which way you like. What is the embodiment of the name "Metal Gear Solid"? For some people it may be a gameplay style, and for others it may be the world it takes place in.
Which is kind of devils advocate of me to say, since I'm still bummed that Fallout 3 is not a proper turn based game

Maybe you guys are missing the "LIGHTNING BOLT ACTION" text that has been there since the game's announcement last year. This isn't and was never billed as "TACTICAL ESPIONAGE ACTION".
If you're not interested in the game, then that's your decision - but don't act as if Konami was pulling the wool over your eyes for a year when it was clear that this was going to be a different type of MGS game.

Actually, this interview would like to say otherwise. I can play any MGS right now and have the option to not kill anyone, Rising will do just the opposite and pretty much do against everything MGS has ever done.
It's pretty clear that action is their primary focus and not stealth, which is a huge disappointment for me, as I was hoping it wouldn't just be a hack-n-slash ninja game.

They showed off an exciting element of the game. Stop extrapolating that past what we know.
There very well may be an option for you to not kill a single npc in the game, but they probably wanted to show off the thing that you can't do in any other MGS game first since that gets people excited.

Did you read the interview that you linked?
"The game isn't all hack and slash action, though. One of the first things Matsuyama cleared up in the interview is a misconception some might have had from the E3 trailer. There's more to the game than just fighting, he said. In fact, you're free to play like a more conventional Metal Gear Solid game, advancing stealthily. Those who are more confident in their action skills, however, can choose to charge right in at enemy groups."

wait? im confused. what were you hoping for when you knew rising was going to be played as Raiden? Based off what we all saw in MGS4... an actiony ninja Slashy game is EXACTLY what everyone thought it was going to be and EXACTLY what everyone wanted.
Who wants to sneak around as Raiden in this game anyways?

There's still a lot of space between "stealth game" and "just a hack-n-slash ninja game."
This is still Kojima we're talking about, it's *at least* going to be a really awesome hack-n-slash ninja game.

For the most part, all the metal gear games from MGS going forward gave the option of running in guns blazing or sneaking through the back.
MGS4, for example, is actually much easier to play as a run n gun shooter. Snake takes tons of damage before he dies, and ammo/rations are never in short supply.

If you decided to watch the Konami press conference last night, the dev team came out and said that Rising will have plenty of Stealth elements. But at a faster pace, because of Raidens acrobatic ability. They're making you more of a hunter than anything, which being a hardcore MGS fan I think sounds incredible. They trailer is obviously going to have a little more action than stealth to show the new combat mechanics of the game.

Again, they said AGES ago that this game is going to be more action-focused. Don't know where you're getting this sudden disappointment from.

I'd agree. Move support for this would be incredible. They've tried alot of new and creative things with the Metal Gear series, so i'm thinking it will have it.

Raiden has always needed a backbone, he needs all the spines he can get, all that whining and bitching in MGS2 and he goes from that to daddy and show off in MGS4.
His first mission alone should be good, stealth or not, count me in.
