Even though Beast is nice and all, it would've been awesome if they could've combined this and Horde for some player Horde(s) Vs. player COG(s) action. It only makes sense.

@MGTrey

When I first saw this mode thats what I thought it was ala something similar in the L4D series. Epic has enough trouble with 5 vs 5 competitive with no lag so just be happy with the new mode for now. This is the one damn game that makes me want a 360 again. I could care less about everything else but Gears is where it's at. One of my favorite gaming franchises this generation.

@MGTrey No I totally agree with you. It seems that would be one of the first things to come to Cliff's mind while creating this mode. I dunno, maybe they'll add on to Beast mode before it releases next April.

@ResEvilGuy: Yeah, but that's just killing each other, and you can't play as Tickers, Beserkers, Boomers, etc.

@MGTrey

I kind of wish they would make it a more accurate reverse of Horde mode. Being able to constantly respawn as a locust, teaming up to try to take out a few entrenched COG soldiers who are taking you and your teammates out just as fast as they would in the typical Horde mode.

Also, I want to play as a Boomer.

@MGTrey

You could have 4v4 with limited weapons to start out, like warzone or execution style, and after one team is wiped out another one or two players or AI [insert locust/lambent baddie here] get added in when the wave starts.

So, your 4v4 turns into a 4v5, 4v6, 4v7, ad infinitum...

Also, if the other side wins, your numbers increase. So, your 4v8 would turn into a 5v8, 6v8...

Feel free to use that, CliffyB.

I still say that Horde mode is the greatest co-op game mode ever created. Also, I still believe that a pure (no glitches or cheats) competitive multiplayer match on Gears 1 is the best multiplayer experience ever created. Hopefully in Gears 3 they can get the competitve and co-operative right in the same game. 4 player campaign co-op sounds great, horde is beast and beast is horde so they're both going to be amazing ... they just need to recapture the competitive play from gears 1 because adding that additional player killed the multiplayer in gears 2 for me ... that and all the lag.

@SecrtAgentMan I'm sorry, but after hearing so many complaints of Gears 2's multiplayer, I have to ask: What did everyone have a problem with? Now I admit the game had some serious flaws. For instance, the weapons weren't satisfying and didn't even feel that powerful. But that's a problem the WHOLE game had, so why single out the multiplayer? Sure, it was a little slowly-paced, but seriously? It wasn't that bad.

@SecrtAgentMan Because the Gears 1 multiplayer was so immensely better than the Gears 2 multiplayer.

With Gears 2 they tried to slow it down and make it "tactical". But a "tactical" game where you have that much health is just stupid. There were also tons of frustrating design decisions (putting grenades in the one-entrance areas of Pavillion and Jacinto and then letting people tag them on the wall in the one corridor people could get in through), and overall the game just felt slow.

There's nothing wrong with being an "action shooter", and Gears 1 was the best "action shooter" of all-time to many people (and this was on accident, Epic intended to make a tactical game in Gears 1 but just screwed it up in a rush-job and accidentally made awesome fun MP instead). Then Epic went totally the opposite direction on them and tried to make it the "tactical" game they had always wanted.

That's not to mention that the meta-game of Gears 1 was already very tactical, just in a fast way. It's just the overall team aspect that wasn't.

Well there were problems with the matchmaking, the netcode that was used at first, the numerous bugs and glitches...it wasn't really the weapons, but the little things that could have been fixed with a public beta.

It sounds a little uninspired IMO. The currency-system, just seems like a way to justify the existence of the game-type which feels "like Horde-mode, but backwards!!"* Not 100% sold on it yet, but it's interesting. GOW 2's multiplayer didn't really do it for me.

*fictional quote from an Epic Games design meeting.

It's still not clear how this works. Since you can only use really weak enemies in the first few waves, and likely won't be able to kill any CPU COGS, how do earn points to get better enemies unlocked? This mode sounds amazing, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around how it all works.

@The Pork

It sounds like the first couple waves of COGs are going to be relatively weak too, or perhaps will come in fewer numbers, letting you pick them off as the lesser creatures.

The reason I'm sold on Gears 3 is the fact that they'll have dedicated servers.

Finally, MP can be fun due to not having to deal with atrocious lag.
