After seeing games running in glasses-free 3D on Nintendo's black-magic powered 3DS, looking at old-fashioned "flat" images just isn't that much fun anymore. Still, these official photos of (the still-a-prototype) the 3DS itself -- in red and blue -- are pretty impressive. Emphasis on pretty. They'll almost make you want to reach into your screen to grab them, but we really don't recommend that. Having to buy a new monitor will kind of put a dent in that money you're setting aside to buy a 3DS.

Red definitely looks better than blue for me.

I wish they'd put a bit a bit more emphasis on the gray one. Gray may be a boring color, but it's still pretty cool.

Doesn't look that pretty, IMO.

I think you misunderstood me.
The 3DS itself doesn't look that good, but the launch line-up is so amazing I'll get it day one, maybe earlier if I import it from America!
Plus it's what's on the screen that counts. Ocarina of Time with Wii graphics in 3D=yum!

I don't like the different coloured bottoms. Why make it orange when the rest is red? Also the closed side-profile looks clunky. I hope they smooth it out for the final.
lol, who am I kidding? I'd trade my family for a cardboard cut out!

I'm pretty surprised there's so much hype for it already. I mean, I don't consider the graphics all that much better than the PSP and in some cases they're worse. (yes, early builds but still) I mean, if Sony released this I think people would be bitching left and right and complaining about no second analog stick for games that are pointless on a handheld and how the leap in graphics is minimal. Might even have given crap about the 3D capabilities if they didn't have the right demos to show off.
I would expect there to be more Jadedness against it. Then again, I think everyone knows it's only going to get better and everyone knows it's going to be fun regardless so I guess that's why everyone is being so kind. That's pretty much the difference with Sony right now. Hardware be damned they just can't release enough games or enough diverse games on their platforms so people are extra critical of them, rightly so.
Just interesting to see, is all.

@(Unverified) I think a lot of it's the games. And the 3D. And the slick factor. I've got to admit, I'd love to see the graphics at a slightly higher level - I've had a PSP for...three years...and I'd love to see a handheld that went far beyond that. But ultimately it's about the games. And the 3DS looks to have them.

Yeah but Sony has let us down hard in the handheld department (more so with the Go) while Nintendo hasn't.

Not too knowledgable on the specs and hardware and stuff of the 3DS, what are the two camera like things on the top? Are they actually cameras? I take it they have something to do with 3D.

I like how you capitalized "Computer Screen".
It caused me to think that I actually could buy a 3DS through my monitor. Sadly, $5 did not cut it :'(

Can't wait to get my hands on one, but I'm not massively keen on the weird two-color design (even if it is just a prototype). It seems a strange choice to use that for all the official photos, as it makes it look kind of ugly and tacky. Like there was a mix-up on the assembly line.

I'm totally won over by what I've heard, especially since the launch line-up looks like it could be the best ever. And to think I thought I was being cunning by skipping the DSi and sticking with my Lite forever...
