Actually, I've been playing in the alpha, and a normal console controller works a lot better with this particular mmo. It seems odd that they're doing this for an mmo that works better without a traditional keyboard...

@BluElement

The PS3 does support in-game K&M (Unreal Tournament 3), developers are the ones that need to support that feature.

Perhaps someone should send them a lovely fruit basket, and right in the middle include a good book on ergonomics.

"featuring a rather insane-looking tabletop left-hand thing"

Yeah, what's exactly going on over there? I see it's called a "Handgrip Controller" and appears to have all the buttons on a single face; I'm curious if there are any buttons on the back, such as a trigger.

Move controller looks great. I've heard so many people bashing it, I guess because it's phallic and thus the smaller boys will be obsessed with it.

But it's beautiful. It's got a very functional design, the globe is cool, it's got buttons. I really like the move's design. I don't really like the sixaxis's left stick, but otherwise, Sony makes good controllers. Oh, except the PSPs to some extent.

I think PS3 controllers must be black.

I do not know how they screwed that up.

"Massive controllers" are keyboards now? Pfft, I've been playing with a massive controller for years. The more consoles use mice and keyboards, the more I wonder how they're any different than a PC with a gamepad.

Closed vs. open systems?

That, and the whole "non upgradable" thing... unless you count buying a new one after they've added new features, or swapping hard drives I guess.

It's been the same pad for the last 15 years.. I remember the first analogue PS1 pad when it hit the UK, we didn't get dual shocks, like everywhere else, being they thought they'd be too 'sexual' for us.. we eventually got them about 6 months later

My word, it's hideous. Did they just take an old terminal keyboard from the 1980s and hack some PlayStation buttons onto it? I'm half-surprised it doesn't have a Commodore key next to the left shift...

It's a keyboard?

Mind you, MMOs are probably best played with Keyboards, but it's because they mostly are on PCs, not because the F1 button is just perfect there. I would hope they could at least come up with something a little more...inspired, dongle aside.

Does anyone know of this game will support a normal Keyboard and Mouse combo? If so, then this thing is dead in the water.

Have they heard of a mouse? Just release a mouse. And tell Square to support it. Failing that, reintroduce the FRAGMASTER controller!

I've been using my 360 wired controller in the FFXIV Alpha and it works great, plus (just like I did in FFXI with a PS2 controller) if I need to type I can just lay the controller on my lap and do so.

I'm way too used to using a controller for the needed combination of movement, camera control, and quick actions to buy a freaky-looking keyboard like the one in this story.
