Gaikai signs multi-year licensing deal with EA

Gaikai may not be ready for action just yet (the service doesn't have a release date), but the company was more than happy to drop news of a multi-year licensing agreement with Electronic Arts today. The news appears to be delivering on promises that the company's fearless leader, Dave Perry, made back in April of a big E3 announcement. Among the games Gaikai will be bringing to the web-streaming service are The Sims, the Battlefield: Bad Company series, the Dragon Age series, the Mass Effect series, Medal of Honor and Need for Speed.

"Gaikai's innovations open whole new experiences for both current players and new customers looking for the best of interactive entertainment," EA's Richard Hilleman said of the licensing deal. We're open to both "whole new experiences" and "interactive entertainment," so that sounds just fantastic to us.

Wait... is this another supercomputer-runs-the-game-and-it-streams-on-your-not-so-super-computer thing?

I thought that Onlive one already proved that this idea isn't really viable yet.

@Naru now in 3D :: I don't live in a super-broadband place but I have all sorts of trouble playing online games due to servers too far from me (BC2), and host migration (MW2), or bullet detection issues (RDR). One of Onlive's games is Mirror's Edge; good luck beating that with lag, you will definitely want to be within an extremely close range of their data centres to have any hope of success.

It's the same as what onlive offers, but it is browser-based, has more server hubs, and is much cheaper. Supposedly if you have over a 1Mb connection it should work fine, so I'm covered.

Oh man, it's been a while. I wonder if there'll be a resurgence of DSG now that Dead Space Extraction's coming PS3-ward? Though I'm not sure if it's just a part of the DS2 Special Edition or whatever.

...anyway, yeah. I do like that there are only 2 or so threads actually discussing Gaikai, lol.

Here are some facts:... OnLive is a streamingservice avalible in the US (And NOT in Europe). It will cost you 15 $ a month + an unknown price for each game. You need to buy a box (hardware) som to be part of this...
Gai Kai is a somwhat similar project based in Europe. It may cost a little less and it will feature free demos. You do not have to get extra hardware for this service. OnLive will be running sooner than Gai Kai but I think people in Europe will have as good if not a better system using Gai Kai. Both systems however claim they will bring you "the ultimate gaming experience and give each member access to lots of games orginally made for Playstation, Xbox Nintendo and PC.
I must say I look forward to Gai Kai lauching !
