wouldn't mind knuckles or tails. they were fine in sonic 3. but it ends there. wish this wasn't episodic though.

@PrimetimePragz I feel if Sonic 4 becomes a success just as Sonic 1 was, followed by Episode 2 & 3, the WHOLE Sonic Cycle will repeat and we will be complaining about how crappy Sonic games are and how many furries there are until Sonic 5. :/

Was just reminded of how in Sonic 2 there's 1up on top of a pillar in the first act of the 2nd level that you have to climb for a good 30 seconds as Knuckles in order to get it.. kinda makes you think they planned on introducing Knuckles since Sonic 2 since there's no other way to get it.
Characters with special abilities like 'climbing' or 'flying' would be a great add-on I think

when they add new chars they should def. have their own unique dynamic such as mentioned above with "climbing for flying". ex. "teleporter", "high jumper", etc.

That sort of differentiation was there with the Sonic Advance games. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy played vastly different than each other. This game seems like a step back imo. The Advance games were by far the best Sonic games if you ask me. Honestly, I probably won't get this unless they add something really special. I just feel like I've played this game 6 times before and have no real incentive to drop down money for another rehash. Mario has evolved greatly over the years in the 2D world. Why can't Sonic?

Sonic's friends are just fine...if you stop at Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. If those 4 are playable versus Robotnik, then that's just fine. No need for Shadow, Rouge, Big, Team Chaotix, any robot [well, except Metal Sonic], or anything of that sort.

Last I checked, Sonic 2 and 3 (and Sonic 3 & Knuckles) are considered far superior to Sonic 1 (a game that didn't even have the spin dash ability).
So by your logic, Sonic 1, Sonic 2 (for Game Gear and Master System), Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic Spinball, Sonic and the Secret Rings, and Sonic Unleashed are your definition of the best Sonic titles because they are the only games in the series where Sonic is the only playable character.

Sonic's fans are too stratified now and have been since forever. The media folk should really stop saying things like "disconcerting" in regards to x amount of characters in any given Sonic game...some significant portion of fans will want more characters, some won't. It's useless fodder to stir up the same trite debate.
In any case, Sega should have paid more attention to Capcom. Now that's a company that knows how to milk a cow.
