That's fine, I don't care. I was just genuinely curious about the first down vote... not really a complaint. What I said it 100% correct. The power icon is a ring and it turns red. In fact, I'd argue that it's more of a ring than the original RRoD since that was actually just 3 quadrants.

I don't know why, but I REALLY want to buy this. It'd be a great replacement to my 60gig hard drive, and freezing prone Xbox.
I really want to wait until it comes out and we can get some performance stats because I really hope that, despite what they say, it is a bit faster.

I'm quite fond of the idea of calling it the 'short,' made me chuckle. I hope the name catches on, I think I'd at least smile every time I see it referred to as such. :)

Other possibilities include the "Xbox Shrimpy," "Xbox Stumpy," and "Xbox Napoleon."

Haha, all very good. I think Short still has potential though. Maybe... the Short Box? Xbox Shorty? As in, "I'm goin' home to play with my Shorty tonight. Gonna play aaall night long." :)

Xbox Lite, then the Arcade version can be called Xbox Lite Arcade! And then confuse people even more with Xbox Lite Elite!

How about the new 360 is just an Xbox 360, and the larger one is the Legacy 360?

According to reports at E3, it's nearly silent (compared to the jet engine-like volume of old 360's).

"The design allows for a single heatsink to be cooled by a single, larger fan making the new Xbox "noticeably quieter," measured at 45dB when idle or 51dB with the 1.5Gbps SATA Hitachi HTS545025B9SA00 with 8MB buffer spinning at 5400RPM -- that's down from 50dB and 54dB, respectively, as measured on late 2008 through 2010 Jasper-class 360s."

@Soc
It really does. i think this is a direct response to Sony by MS. I think they are trying to show that even though they made a "Slim' they are doing well enough to add Cap touch buttons and additional USB ports. These are things Sony had to remove or cut down on to save money.
With the wireless N built in and a bigger HDD I want one even though I have only had my current 360 a few months now.

And it's so much quieter than my PS3. Go figure.
Definitely loving it so far. Mass Effect 2 and Shadow Complex are stupid good. =P

You're right. It shouldn't be called slim. This is why it's not :P It's called "new Xbox 360"

@Prboi: It wasnt their own fans. They were Delta fans they used.
The problem is that the fans and cooling system were insufficient to keep the chips cool, but the chips were allowed to heat up right up to their maximum. If the fans were always running full blast, there would probably be very few RROD's. But thats just silly to make a console that is that loud (well, they could have taking into account the fact the DVD drive is spinning, which is noisier than the fans running at full blast. That all disappeared as soon as HD installs happend, though).
Add to that the too easy to warp MB and weak soldering and you get GPU separation issues and thus RROD's.
This probably could have all been avoided if they had made the xbox a little bigger so that the GPU cooler were a little more substantial. Its a tiny aluminum sliver under the DVD drive with newer ones having the heat pipe to suck residue air from the CPU portion of the fan. That, and theres no clear incoming path for the air.
Freezing 360's have been fixed simply by putting an extra fan to suck fresh outside air directly into the console.

@Prboi I never had too much problem with the old 360 I used to have.
Though I'd developed the habit of always letting it 'warm up' first on the dashboard for about 5-10 minutes, before starting a game, and always letting it cool down on the dashboard for the same amount of time after a game, before turning it off.
Probably didn't have much to do with anything, but I felt better about it!

I think you're hinting at the failure rate here, but I actually have two of them because I travel for work and one is at home and the other stays at my other place where I work.

There's probably 3-4 years before "next gen" hardware hits the shelves, right? Rebuilding the 360 now was a good idea. Should 360 Squat failure reports be few, the taint of RROD and other myriad problems of the 'old' hardware will be ancient history.
