I would rather have a Mass Effect - like ultra deep, story & character driven RPG then a MMO for the beloved franchise.

Or a simple Battlefield / Battlefront copy cat :P

Needless to say, I will still try this.

It would be impressive if they could get browser based games of this calibre working in the PS3 browser too!

Just like every other hardcore BSG fan that happens to be a gamer, I'll be all over this when it comes out, and hopefully will get in to the beta. But I'm not holding my breath for anything exciting. This might be a nice distraction every once in a while -- something to hop on and play with some casual-gamer friends or friends at work (on their lunch breaks, natch), but I can't believe I'll be sinking much time into it.

Space combat MMO? That's what I'm waiting for Jumpgate: Evolution for.

PS: Joystiq - for shame there was no Jumpgate E3 coverage! I want! I need!

@dustindeckard

I'm pretty sure their sister site Massively.com had some Jumpgate coverage. Check Massively for dedicated MMO news. :)

@dustindeckard Our sister site Massively is better suited to hit those titles at E3... and they did.

I've never watched BSG, simply because I know it will devour all my time, but this looks fun

I'm not exactly sure about a Battlestar Galactica MMO -- I'd almost rather have a Caprica MMO and how it leads into BSG. Basically, you play a character who's playing a character in Caprica virtual reality world. There's something you do in Caprica that you don't get to do in the VR world which you don't get to do in real life. Which is almost like the Dot Hack series.

Plus, with the whole private school enlisting Soldiers of God, it's kinda like SMT: Persona....I think it could work.

Battlestar Galactica never had a second season, it was cancelled in 1978.

There was that Ron Moore space show that stole a lot of its proper nouns that was on Sci-Fi, a lot of people seem to confuse the two for some reason

Yea, I agree. It'd be nice if this was based off the original series. It might make this stand out a little better. I'd also have a little more faith in it if it were. Sci-Fi (Or SyFy now) isn't a name synonymous with quality by a long shot. For Bigpoints sake, I hope they can overcome that.

One thing for certain they'd have to do though is nail down the camera issues. If their camera usage is anything like the show, it'll be an unholy and unplayable mess.

@(Unverified) keep hope alive, man. Maybe for the special edition in 20 years they'll insert the robot-chimpanzee-dog and feather everyone's hair with CG.

Spin up the FTL drive. Set condition one throughout the ship.

Thanks for the tip, and sorry if I came off gruff! :)

"such as the lasers on a Cylon Raider"

Am I the only one who doesn't remember ANY lasers on ANYTHING in the ENTIRE show? And while I'd agree it was the drama, politics and characters that made fans come back each week, the coolest part about the space battles were that they weren't just a bunch of flashy lasers and photon torpedoes, they were about massive cannons, missiles, machine guns, and even nukes.

i've seen one good game based on BSG and it was board one. drama and politics were involved; and i don't believe in a videogame based on such property which does drama and politics justice (OK maybe drama if they hire writers from Square). so i think it's all right for this one to focus on space, just don't do it in a way of Xbox arcade game

"(During the demo there were nine available slots for secondary weapons.)" In the show there were two kinds of weapons. Bullets and nukes. Instead of shoehorning in a bunch of new, stupid weapons, why not concentrate on making shooting bullets and nukes fun? When I was a kid there was a trend in action figures to shoehorn a bunch of stupid features onto primary characters like Batman. There was "Arctic Assault Batman" with stupid ice armor and a white suit. There was "Aqua Attack Batman" with stupid water-squirting action and a blue suit. But you know what, game designers? I just wanted Batman Batman! I wanted the one from the cartoon! So the moral of my story is, superfluous accessories suck terribly.

Looks nice, but I would prefer an arcade-style shooter instead of an MMO (something like the Rogue Squadron series).
