Dear Joystiq:

Now comments aren't working at all for me. Please fix.

Okay, what happened to my first two comments?

Oh, that's right. Comments are a luxury. When we subscribe to Joystiq Gold they will work properly, as long as the host's connection doesn't suck.

Right?

@Enosoma Please stop whining. Give them time to work out the kinks. Acting like a baby isn't going to get it fixed. If you are going to bitch go hang out on kotaku.

@Enosoma.

It's a BETA remember! It's supposed to have bugs.

Also, whining on here is probably not the best place to do it. Keep it on topic eh?

I myself am super excited about this game. When I finally get a gaming PC good enough to play it I'ma own some bitches. ^^

I think some of my intended comments to Joystiq posts are going elsewhere. Like a forum on Oprah's website or something. Because they certainly aren't going in the right place here.

@world8600, I really like this game but I wish there was a mode where the rounds only lasted 15 minutes. Right now they last at least 25 minutes on the 3 v 3 map, and sometimes 60 minutes on the 5 v 5 map. It's just too much time.

When there are some heroes that are stronger than others, and those heroes have to be bought, there will always be balance issues. LoL's balance will always be broken except in those games where both teams playing are composed of rich spoiled kiddies who spent twice on LoL than HoN's retail price.

@Ashitaka

Not at high level competitive play. Once you're maxed with perfect rune setup (and its not that hard to do if you're practicing for tournies) there's nothing else to buy. There is no extra advantage you get in the game by purchasing anything. You only get to the top -faster-. And if you're gosu enough to compete at that level from the start, there should be nothing stopping you from buying in like that.

I play it, it's a pretty fun game. The only thing I'm having a problem with right now is some balance issues, but they should hopefully be worked out in season one.

I think they're kidding themselves that they are a competitive game. LoL is a much friendlier, newbie friendly version of DoTA.

I mean there are just some things in the game (paying for heroes or grinding for them, getting "levels" that actually effect in game) that do not go well for competitive play. There is nothing necessarily wrong with that but I just don't see comp being anything special, especially with HoN running wild with the comp scene so far. (Dreamhack going on right now, #1 team gets $6600 or so.)

Agreed, I highly prefer HoN over LoL. I don't think LoL is a bad game, but imo it just lacks some of the punch of Heroes of Newerth.

Wow, some people clearly didn't understand what I was saying.

I'm not saying that it is necessarily a bad game but I am saying that it is not suitable for competition.

DWhizle I'm not talking about banning anything, don't be stupid please.

OnLive is going to be the great hope for Mac gaming going forward. I don't see anyone actually porting their game when they can just partner with Onlive for a streamlined mac experience with zero work.

And Joystiq, please get your act together. HoN > LoL, SO TALK ABOUT IT.
RIGHT NOW, the Dreamhack tournament is streaming the HoN tourny live, as I write this and HoN has the highest prize money, even higher than Quake and other games that have been part of the competitive scene for a very long time. This just goes to show you the growth of the game, please review it :)

@Ashitaka while S2 will never admit, it HON is starting to loose popularly and the population is shrinking.

Just look at this:
http://www.xfire.com/
http://www.google.com/trends?q=league+of+legends,+heroes+of+newerth&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0

So while there is a sizable amount of people playing HON, LOL is the trend setter. Note that the graphs are accurate. The graph of HON starts going down the day they released it.

@Ashitaka

I do feel like they're giving LoL a lot of spotlight.

@MyPants:

Thats why HoN is getting some of the largest prize pools for tournaments we've ever seen, right? Right now at Dreamhack the HoN prize pool is the LARGEST there. Larger than Quake Live, Counter-Strike and even Street Fighter.

I'm sorry but the number of tournaments and the amount of top tier teams moving over from DoTA to HoN really counter your statement.

And anyways we are comparing a free to play game versus one that you need to buy. Of course every kid is going to try LoL, its free.

@ DWhizzle
Actually, Massively (which is part of Joystiq, I think) is pretty much all about WoW and when MW2 was out Joystiq would report on every single bug, exploit, patch and DLC of the game. As for Halo, you'll see it when Reach is ready to hit shelves, so don't tell me that Joystiq isn't susceptible to post more about games that are more popular.

@ MyPants
It's obvious that after going retail HoN would lose (not loose) popularity. HOWEVER, xfire means nothing (not everybody uses it) and google... meh, what that proves is that LoL is more popular. But LoL will always be more popular due to it being free to play, but as for which of the games is deeper/more competitive, HoN will always be in the lead.

@ Acosta02
I'm chilled xD It's just that I love my HoN and I love my Joystiq so I want them together! Plus, I want more newbs in the game to own them :P

The differences I found between LoL and HoN, aside from HoN's one time fee and LoL's F2P system, is that LoL has a much nicer, friendlier player base, which makes sense since the game is nicer and friendlier. HoN has one of the most behaviorally-challenged I've ever been apart of, but the game itself is much more competitive in general and somewhat deeper, so that makes sense too.

Just out of curiosity--how many maps does HoN and other moba have?
I really haven't seen that many moba games with lots of maps. LoL has 2, and I only see 1 map from HoN players at my uni. Makes you wonder what kind of cool things can be done around mapping.

@Xocolatl

HoN has 3 maps technically. Two of them are 5v5 maps and one is centered on 3v3.

That being said the game is much more easily compared to something like Chess where it is traditionally played on one map. I don't know about LoL but the map on HoN is the same as the DoTA map which has received years and years of balance and tweaks.

Generally these games are more about the hero picks and strategy versus learning different maps.

I too agree though that Joystiq never covers Heroes of Newerth. I can not tell you how many articles I've seen about LoL while HoN is pushed tot he side. There does seem to be some favoritism there considering Dreamhack and the retail release of HoN back in May. Neither of these events were covered or talked about.

All in all, I think I've seen a half a dozen articles on LoL and maybe one on Heroes of Newerth.
