Though I'm not big into the racing genre, I'm glad that this game has a solid released date for once. Now that we have that out of the way, how about some info on The Last Guardian. It killed me that that game wasn't shown in any form at E3. Hopefully we'll hear something at the Tokyo Game Show.

"still no destruction? ugh maybe in gt6... "
And that has what to do with the original comment?
Besides, it's already confirmed that cars can be wrecked and show damage. I don't even care about regular racers (I ♥ kart racers), but even I know that.
If you're going to troll, at least put some effort into it.

Wow. This game has everything. Lol. Looks phenomenal though, cant complain. If they ditched a bit of the beginning grind element of past GT games I might pick this up. I got GT1 on PS1 after having the console for a couple years and loved it, and then GT3 when I got my PS2 and played that for at least 100 hours. Never played GT4 or the PSP game. Forza and Shift never did it for me. Maybe this will.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. Part of the reason why this game has taken so long to come out is because they've spent thousands of hours meticulously photographing and rendering all 1000 cars and 20 tracks in the game. That's part of the reason why it's the most accurate racing sim out there as far as detail is concerned, and why the game looks better then any other racing game out there. Polyphony deserves all the credit in the world for that in my books.

Stop killing me...at first glance I read "take a spin..". I Instantly thought there was a demo somewhere, like the actual demo not Prologue. But then again...=( I'm sad again...=p
Hopefully it comes out in November..I got bored of Forza 3 already even though Forza is an amazing game. I guess I just want to throw 60USD at a new game.

I would love to see exactly how much it cost to make this game. Could very well be more expensive than even Shenmue.

o true that lol...
60/5 = 12million and half of that is 6 million
sooo I'm assuming, some where between 64.5 Million and 68 Million.

I was just thinking. It would have been a great April fools joke if they announced that GT5 would have a combat racing mode. I can just imagine how many people would have freaked out.

@WINterfang Time would have been better spent perfecting the environments, which are still good, but the fetish with perfecting the cars is kind of silly. You're still limited with the hardware so you might as well make realistic goals. A car has a lot of leeway on detail and still being believable. Plus, they're going to do this all over again next gen? or did they actually exceed the renderings and are downscaling them to fit the PS3? That would make a lot more sense.
Of course, there is one major caveat. I haven't seen it on my HDTV yet so it could very well be time well spent for us. Either way, unless it breaks every sale conceivable record out there, it was poor business sense pouring so much money into it over minor details. If they don't make buckets of money this will be the last GT of its kind and scale.

I'm fairly certain they'll make their money back without a problem.
The PROLOGUE has sold over 4 million copies, and it's not even the freaking game. I'm fairly certain if you bought the prologue you'll buy the game, and so they'll probably easily break over 5 million copies worldwide.
So don't worry about them making money. ^^

maybe or maybe not, but they do divide 200 cars to "premium" model and the rest to common models: source - http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5247p1.html

I'm usually a bit hesitant about paying full retail price for some games, but for GT5 it'll almost feel like I'm underpaying.
It's about time.

People on PSU forums are bitching and moaning cause they might of spent "Too much time" on premium cars (Apparently even the underside of those are modeled.. o.O) and not enough on the other non-premium cars.
But the non-premium are apparently GT4 models that were beyond the PS2 capabilities, so they will look good regardless.
besides, the game looks good anyway you spin it!

@Cheesus Crust It isnt always easy to find the GT songs because some of them are in house remixes or created by Japanese composers. It's possible this one was by Daiki Kasho as that name appears in a lot of GT sound tracks and apparently even did some of F-zero GX's music on the gamecube.

@(Unverified) Ive been thinking the same thing, seriously I have been contemplating buying a wheel for GT5 release, there is 1 specifically made for gt5 as well http://www.crunchgear.com/2008/02/20/logitech-announces-official-steering-wheel-for-gran-turismo/ -- but the g27 is the best to get :)
They could have milked this franchise a lot more.. They could have split the game into 3 different games by the looks of it..
Its the fact that it covers practically every type of racing, even down to the test track from Top Gear that makes it an instant day 1 purchase for me though..

Don't be a smartass. I already tried that and it doesn't work, and apparently it was made inhouse by Sony/Polyphony

Got the wheel when Prologue came out. it's nice. working on an idea my buddy used for PS2 where he built a set up with an actual car seat that adjusts for different people and has the wheel and pedals mounted into a dash and floor board that he sets up infront of the flatscreen. It's unbelievable.

I think it might be a lack of F1 fans as Joystiq commenters (?). I'm sure anyone who is an F1 fan noticed it and maybe went all kinds of nuts thereafter.
Despite not being a fan of that sport even I know how huge that could be if it was really why those two folks were in the video. Sales records would get obliterated everywhere but the US.

I really wish I was into this type of game. I have a PSEye, a PSP, and will have a 3D capable monitor by the time it releases so I'd be able to get all kinds "added value" from this game.
Maybe I'll rent it just to use head tracking and 3D at the same time and check to see how long it takes me to puke.
