Crackdown 2 demo now available; Facebook game unlocks bonuses

Can't wait to earn 'Cheevos for the many, many heads you'll be busting in Crackdown 2? You can get an early start today -- the 1GB demo of the game, now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, features accelerated character leveling, four-player co-op and the ability to start earning Achievements, which will fully unlock when you boot up the retail version of the game, coming July 6.

In addition, the Crackdown 2-themed Facebook game Chuck's Duck 2 unlocks a new difficulty in the demo and a multiplayer weapon for use in the retail version of the game. Appropriately, said weapon is an exploding, sticky rubber duck. That ought to strike some fear into the hearts of Pacific City's mutant inhabitants, shouldn't it?

A demo that gives you the ability to unlock achivements? That's a first as far as I know.

@R Planteer You don't unlock it, well, you do, but it stays in Limbo till you put the full game in... Well... that's good because everyone just wants to hear that Blip-blup sound that it does anyways.

Oh, and Sony has announced the same functionality on those PSN+ full game 1h demo.

That's pretty ingenious to be able to start earning achievements with a demo then have them unlocked when you receive the game.

That facebook game doesn't work. It says I need a Username and Beta Code

@aray48 Just press Menu, Restart, and quickly press Play.

Cool idea except for the fact that the damn Facebook application won't link w/ my Xbox profile.

@Trojan Same problem here; keep getting "invalid username or password". Can't play the game, either, but I blame that on it being unable to load over my craptastic internet connection at work.

Definitely going to go against what I've been trying to do (wait for price drops on new games) and pick this one up at launch.

I loved the first one, and judging by what I played of the demo, this one is going to be even better. :)

I stayed up till after midnight but the demo didn't show up. Found it on the marketplace this morning but it wouldn't work. i was hoping i could get it downloaded and be waiting on me when i got home...

No it's probably not your connection. Their game is just messed up and not ready to be used, it seems. When you first try to play it, it asks you for a username and beta code. No idea what username or beta code it wants, but hitting menu and then restart can get you into the game. But when you try to link to your MSN passport account, good luck. They really should've waited until this game was ready to be used before announcing it.

as a core gamer, I want to say thank you Microsoft for Crackdown 2.

Having played it for an hour, I think it's safe to say that Crackdown 2 is Crackdown, except with a "2" in the title.

Bam. Game reviewed.

@whymog I played the through the demo as well and everything is exactly the same just with the addition of zombies. I really liked the first game but after 3 years I was hoping for more improvement. Maybe the full game will be more varied.

a fair few arcade game demos allow you to get achievements that then unlock when you buy them, some even tell you that they will show up if you buy the game.

I played the first game's demo TO DEATH. Can't wait to do it again!

It works now. Though i know the objective of the game i cannot work out for the life of me how i'm supposed to be unlocking things. It tells me i need 20 ducks and i have about four hundred of them ¬¬

HOw the hell do you play that game? I get the balloons and such but it always says save 20 more ducks to get a bonus, huh?

I figured it out, that bar at the side tells you when youve unlocked something. Yet i went on the demo and i don't have whatever i'm supposed to be unlocking. Stupid and a waste of time, i'd wait until someone confirms something before i ever touch this stupid game again.

Yeah, I think that the game still is broken. You can PLAY it now, but it's not registering the fact that you're saving ducks and that meter on the right isn't going up at all. Ugh.

God I loved the first game, and what I played of the game so far (the multiplayer), can't wait to download this and start earning those achievements.

@ybfelix It is the same guy. Michael McConnohie. It was referenced in some other post either here or on Kotaku a few months back that a developer noticed the difference in his voice, and McConnohie stated that he didn't have a cold this time.

Have you tried it today? I will a bit later but i don't have the nerve to now. Plus i'm finishing off my 1250 on Crackdown 1. Damn stunt rings.

Yeah, I tried this afternoon and it SEEMS like it may be working. It's kind of confusing because that gauge on the right side (with the bell at the top) isn't filling up. But when I look at my name on the left side, there's a little duck next to it and when I hover over it, it says I have ducks waiting for me in Pacific City. So yeah, I'm not SURE if it's working or not but I think it might be?

I'll have a try now...though i'm not looking forward to this. Thanks for the update dude.
