I still would've rather he just ignored your request for an interview then take the interview and lie.

You're an asshat.

You should look up "Libel and Slander". Dumbass.

"Generally speaking, defamation is the issuance of a false statement about another person, which causes that person to suffer harm. Slander involves the making of defamatory statements by a transitory (non-fixed) representation, usually an oral (spoken) representation. Libel involves the making of defamatory statements in a printed or fixed medium, such as a magazine or newspaper. "

http://www.expertlaw.com/library/personal_injury/defamation.html

So there's the definition. All I've said is I'd rather him not lie... I'd rather him just refuse the interview. He doesn't HAVE to make a comment... he didn't HAVE to release any information. I don't see how any of that is defamatory.... Here's the original article:

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/24/david-jaffe-not-working-on-new-twisted-metal/

According to Joystiq, he very plainly did lie. You can't deny that, and I'm not sure why you'd try. Maybe my opinion is stupid, that's fine, but you're calling it "slander" is a stretch at best... but more downright false...

Is it so wrong to dislike dishonesty? I don't know, I'm not even that into Twisted Metal, so I guess I'm more just disappointed in not getting a new Jaffe title. But whatever. Try not to take it so personally.

Well, I guess I should say that I was bummed he was working on Twisted Metal -- I'm one of the gamers that thinks car combat thingys are out of style forever -- but I have faith in Jaffe, and the Twisted Metal IP.

Wish he was working on a new IP, but I'm still going to buy this day one.

I was able to play this a bit last week. It was fun! I hope the controls are tightened up a bit tho, felt really arcade like...doesn't feel like you're controlling a vehicle with the 180 button.

I think he miscalculated here. If he had simply issued a bunch of "Not talking about future plans, guys" when people asked about E3/Twisted Metal, then he would have come out in the van, and I would have been all, "Well, I thought this might happen, but cool, new Twisted Metal!"

Instead, he came out and instead of thinking about the game, my reaction was, "Sh*t, that dude is just a stone-cold liar and he straight up doesn't care."

@copa "that dude is just a stone-cold liar and he straight up doesn't care"

- Dad, did you buy me my christmas present, yet?
- No, I was too busy snorting cocaine and having sex with twelve taiwanese prostitutes.

Yeah, I know, that's an extreme example ;)

You know, sometimes people lie not because they are evil and mischievous non-caring sobs. Occasionally, we lie not because we don't care but because WE ACTUALLY CARE ENOUGH .
World's not all black and white, kids! There's gray and rainbows and all kinds of shit!

People need to get over it, so what? He lied about working on the game.

If he had said no comment, then that's like saying yes! There! Surprise ruined... Or before the interview he could have said, don't ask me any questions about upcoming projects.

"But I do think there is a place for shorter games that don't cost as much money. I don't mean small arcade games, I mean narrative-based story telling games. I'd love to try to explore that, that would be awesome."

I totally agree with this. I enjoy being able to sit down and play a game from beginning to end in an evening. Not every game, but once in awhile it makes for a very different experience.

Zeno Clash UE was the last one. Kind of a perfect game to digest all at once. The core mechanics weren't necessarily good enough to play for 15 hours, but for 4 hours they held up and drove forward a very bizarre and wonderful world.

I was pleasantly surprised and ecstatic when Sweet Tooth came rolling out. It was like x-mas in July. Lie to me all you want...give me Twisted Metal and tell me it's a gift from the Easter Bunny.

I fully support his lying to the press, because he's absolutely right about E3 the last few years. There are no big megatons, because people keep spoiling it, and it's just not as fun as it was.

I'm not a big Twisted Metal fan, but I imagine that the people who are were shitting bricks. Everyone trying to rub it his nose really need to see the bigger picture. He gave so much more than he took by telling a little lie.

People need to take a second and think about what actually happened... they were genuinely surprised.

I'm glad he lied, he's absolutely right about the lack of surprises in recent years. It made the reveal much more exciting, and I think the less we know going into E3 in general, the better.

He lied, big deal. Like anyone here can say they've never lied. I can understand why he did, though, because the industry standard "no comment" pretty much confirms something.

Jaffe doesn't have to tell you guys anything, get over yourselves. If you expected every developer to answer every question you asked before their big press release, it would be less dramatic.

I'm getting sick of gamer entitlement. He's a game developer, not your girlfriend. Any gamers who feel emotionally distraught over a white lie meant to protect the experience of E3 surprises needs to re-evaluate their priorities.

Very true, very down-to-earth guy from what I can tell, and a fantastic developer. One of my favourites for sure. I've never played Twisted Metal, but I think it'd be awesome just because he's working on it. :)

I don't understand why him not telling the truth about working on Twisted Metal is such a big deal now??

He did it to make it a surprise at E3, seems rational to me. I'm glad he did. I was so bummed before E3 and then once I saw the cab driver on screen with the dark lighting at E3 I knew what was going on and was so excited and it all made it that much better.

Twisted Metal 2 is one of my most favorite all-time game. Whether or not this game is as good as that, I am pumped it is back in the rotation!

Was disappointed when Jaffe said he wasn't working on TM, which made the announcment at E3 that much sweeter.

I'm glad it was a suprise, there's not enough of them anymore. People say that Nintendo managed it, but Jaffe is such a big name there's no way to keep it a secret without bending the truth.

Looking forward to some proper car combat. Never tried Auto Assault and Vigilante 8, while fun, was never real competition for amount of time I have spent with TM.

For me it's like saying: "Surprise! Your dog isn't really dead. We lied to you, so you'd be happier to see him."

Also, by lying to journalists he was lying to gamers by proxy, so his argument is pretty dumb.

i agree with Jaffe 100% when i watch E3 i wanna see surprises that will make my Jaw Drop and be like OMG YES ! THAT'S SOOOO AWESOME !!!!! nowin days at E3 it's like... oh i knew about that .. oh i knew about this too so really their's less surprise cause websites leak things everyday.

Remember when everyone watched Sony's confrence and heard Glados deploying surprise that made me go " WTF ! that's a valve game " and then see Gabe Newell come out talking about PS3 and past comments and now it's coming too PS3 by them and not by another company.

now that is the kinda shock and excitement i like too have when watching E3 now a days everythings just ruined from the internet for E3 related stuff.
