Nintendo wowed E3 audiences this year when it unveiled the Nintendo 3DS. However, the Vitality Sensor, a mysterious peripheral for Wii announced at last year's E3, was missing from the lineup. What happened to it? Nintendo EVP Cammie Dunaway told Game Set Watch that Nintendo is "continuing to work on the Vitality Sensor." The reason for its absence? Nintendo had too much to show, such as the two dozen games showcased for the 3DS. "We realized we had a really packed agenda," Dunaway admitted.
Fans upset about the Vitality Sensor's absence won't have to wait until next year's E3 to find out more about the device, however. "We decided we'd think about other venues that would be more appropriate," Dunaway explained. "[E3] is noisy and adrenaline-filled, and loud and stressful, and it just didn't seem like the best environment to introduce a product that's really about relaxing."
But Cammie, will it help you be better at interviews? You wouldn't want Ubisoft to outdo Nintendo, would you?

Why would a fan be upset anyway? It's just an inanimate object. It's not like it has feelings. It just moves air around.

I think they learned from last year that E3 is not the place to do a lot of casual bullshit.

@aughscreennames Hardcore gamers aren't the only ones to appreciate games, but the fact is HC gamers are the only ones who watch E3 coverage. Your mom may love Wii Sports, but I bet she doesn't know what E3 is, let alone when it happened and what was featured there.

Thats the point, E3 is for a specific audience. Casual gamers dont know what E3 is and they could care less about any sort of game coverage.

@chromekreeper Unfortunately, without the Vitality Sensor, there is no way to know exactly how crazy they are going!

However, investors watch E3 and if all a company talks about is stuff they feel won't sell, they will be less happy with the company they invest in.
Nintendo hit a good balance last E3, imo. Announced stuff that makes hardcore gamers happy, but is also widely accessible, stuff that falls in line with the 'New Super Mario Bros' train of thought and stuff that will be choice buys in the near future.

I don't remember if it was Miyamoto that said that there was going to be a hardware for the N64 that was going to be released with a tetris game, you would put a sensor in your ear i believe, and if you get nervous, the pieces would fall down faster than when you were relaxed...
Don;t know if that's where they are aiming at...

sad part is there is actually a lot that can be done w/ it. think of Eternal Darkness 2 *hint hint nintendo!!!* where the game reacts to how calm vs. nervous you are, if you start to go into a more peaceful state it starts throwing even more creepy stuff at you. Or a FPS where if you are an agitated state your gun starts to shake and you have to try to calm down to get a better aim.
Or, you know... Wii Meditate, where your meditation instructor gets upset if your heart rate increases. Huge seller, that one...
