This might very well be one of the top visual games on any console.

And running at 60FPS to boot.

ID are officially development gods.

(as if they weren't already!)

Can't wait for this to come out. I wish people would stop acting like Fallout is the inventor of the post apocalyptic setting and any game in the setting is copying Fallout.

From what I read in Gameinformer a while back, Rage had been in development when Fallout 3 came out...might be wrong though...

@DylanRK Amen.
The post-apocalyptic setting is really poignant basis for games.
There are several ways to imagine it and it can still be innovated on top of.
Personally I think it works because it's still home. There's all that familiarity only everything is dead or different.

Anybody who says this is a Fallout ripoff is pretty clueless. It looks like a totally different vision of a post-apocalyptic world.

Is it just me or did all the article titles and front page text get really really really small all of a sudden on Joystiq?

Hopefully it's the same kind of run-and-gun gameplay as id's previous games. If so, then I can't wait for this.

I thought this game was coming out on PS3 too....it is worrisome (as someone wishing to play the game) that I've heared squat. Another MS timed exclusive incoming?

@kspraydad

It is coming to the PS3. 'Stiq just put the parentheses around XBOX 360 to show that they saw it ran at 60fps. It would be bad journalism to assume that it runs at 60fps on the PS3 without actually seeing the game run on the PS3.

Saw this at E3. I never thought such high quality textures could run so smoothly on my ol' 360. Its kind of like a desert style Crysis. Except you won't have to overclock your CPU to play it.

Crysis killed my PC.

I still mourn for it. Graphics card never saw it coming. *sniff*

And did anyone else like Doom 3? I thought the graphix were great. Well, I was only 10 at the time, so alot of games looked better back then.

@BrickArms I thought Doom 3 looked pretty good, but there was a lot of "Doom vs. Half-life" talk at the time, and Half-life 2 debuted (I think) the Source tech that looked so good, and was a lot easier to run

...but have you seen ANY recent coverage? For an engine that is supposed to be agnostic you'd think they'd want to show off both versions no?

So it's kinda-sorta like Fallout 3, but with actual production design?

I tried to play Fallout 3, but the funky character models and unending browness bored my eyeballs something awful. Which is a shame, because the concept was certainly cool. But right after finishing the beautiful Mass Effect, I just couldn't hack it.

This looks like a *much* more visually appealing post-apocalypse. Hope the game itself is fun. Sounds like it's off to a good start.

WANTS New Vegas,

This looks like a beautiful remake of Fallout with a new storyline. But more post apocalyptic fun? MUST BUY! xD

Dear Joystiq,

On the right hand side of this article, you have the release date for Rage listed as "Available Now". Please fix this, for it has gotten my hopes up to an unbearable level.

Thank you kind sirs.

This game looks amazing. This is the same type of work i want in the exploration parts of my game.
Which if you're interested is at corsia.webs.com
The graphics are powerful yet the diversity is great and the range is far. I wouldn't have said it could be done till i saw this.

I'm very excited for this game... I've been waiting a long time for a new IP from id Software, and this looks very promising... But at the same time I'm longing for more installments to Doom and Quake. Can't wait for Quakecon and the first peek at Doom 4.

I think Bethesda is a publisher/developer which knows how and when to evolve. They have realized that Fallout 3 is an amazing game (probably my favorite so far), but its graphics and engine are primitive. Now that Obisidian is developing Fallout again, i'm sure that they will not want to update the visuals, like they wanted with cancelled van bureen which kept the shity fallout 2 visuals. Bethesda accepted this project from id which is seems to be extremely similar to Fallout with updated graphics, exactly what Bethesda did with Fallout 3... in my opinion Fallout New Vegas is just an add on for Fallout 3 and RAGE might be a spiritual successor to Fallout. If it is... I WILL BUY IT.....FIVE TIMES!!!!

id making a post apocalyptic FPS was gonna be cool, regrdless. I'm more intrested is seeing how the pull of the vehicles and large open world. Gearbox said that Borderlands was going to feature a large expansive world and vehicular combat. What we got was walled of territory's and the nearly usless "runner". I plan to rent before I buy.
