Aww man, I was kinda looking forward to this. I hate having to pay monthly to play MMOs and also hate the slow pace of combat in most MMOs. This was a match made in heaven for me. But maybe I'll just have to keep waiting for that perfect MMO...

Aw crap. Vindictus was my most anticipated game of the year (an action MMO is long overdue). Now I have nothing major to look forward to. Thanks, Joystiq. :(

@GuardianLegend Sorry! But the good news is it's free to play, so at least you'll still be able to give it a shot and find out of I'm wrong. And like I said, I think someone will pull it off right eventually. I'd enjoy playing a good action MMO, too.

As far as MMOs go let me pay 30$ ontop of the 50$ for the game and 15$ a month to get a character that gains EXP/gold,ect at a 10X faster rate and I will gladly hand over my money, untill then I will abstain from most MMOs unless they are like 5$ a month....which they should be....10+ is ridiculous...............

Action RPG??? *ddrrroooooolllllllllll* I need something to chew on for my Onimusha fix and I haz no PS3 for genji....

@ZippyDSMlee

An Onimusha-like MMO is why I was looking forward to this game. You're not missing anything with the PS3 Genji game though. That game was released half-done.

Vindictus is free to play btw..

@GuardianLegend
Onimusha 1 and 2 both have JP audio tracks and IMO Onimusha 2 was better than 3, 3's voice acting annoyed the hell out of me ><

Onimusha is part mediocre game part so bad its good part awesomeness, its superior to Resident evil as a series I just got Onimusha 4(something of dreams) in yet to play it sine I am rearranging my room have to compare it to RE4 but I bet RE4 is the best of the oni/RE series .

I absolutely abhor MMO's, through no fault of their own. I look back on all the time I spent playing Runescape and Maplestory, and I realize I have nothing to show for it. I have no desire to dedicate myself to a single experience like that ever again.

Unless, of course, it's a Futurama MMO. Now that would be sick.

@ch3burashka And how would that work? :P
I do know a possible enemy: Bender copies. It's not like they're any worse than the original, it's just that Bender likes to be unique and happens to reward those who help his cause.

While I really appreciate you're giving this game some coverage Mike, it's a bit of an unfair preview.

First of all, loot drops are "instanced" if you will. If something drops, every one can loot once and get that item. So, no, loot distribution is not a problem.

As for micro-transactions, they've already said it's mostly cosmetic (new hairstyles, sexy pants etc). You can level, talk, revive members without ever spending a dime. I'm not sure where you got that information, but it's completely false.

As for drinking potions, the indications are visible in two ways:
- HP bar, obviously.
- Animation is different when you spill some.
The only thing that's not really there is some text spelling it out that you should stand still while drinking potions... It's more something you'll have to find out from experience, which I like.

From experience with the Korean version, the game starts out with a tutorial and the difficulty curve is not that hard. The game is a lot about reaction skills, reading enemy attacks, dodging and teamwork. We also didn't encounter those bugs you talked about, the game had a very polished feel to it, so I hope this will be fixed around NA release time.

There's no way I can convince any one of the fact that this is a really promising title (and it's not the point of this post anyway), but for people who are interested, here's some links:

I can second parsec's comment about Vindictus, it really is an amazing game when i played it, did not run into any of those bugs in the Korean Version. and also with DFO too, it's one of the most widely played games and a very popular game in the world (mainly Asia). and although not at it's full potential yet here, will be when it's patched up to date with at least where Japan is at with the game.

As for the cash shop, I don't see it being unfair at all if it's like DFO's cash shop, althought it has potions and "revives" and what not, you are already given 3 revives a day for free, which you really don't need when you get good enough, and potions are easy to get your hands on without the use of paying, i guess it's just convenience, to be able to buy some from cash shop.

The main item in the cash shop are avatars, which change the players looks (looks can't be changed without them), they also give a minor stat boost that isn't needed. The thing with these avatars though, is that they are permanent unlike many other game's cash shop items, and on top of that, tradable. It makes it alot easier to get your hands on these, and in fact, i have full avatar sets on many of my characters already.
