Please let there be a beta so they don't foolishly "release into the wild" again.

Gears of War 1 was really good for the type of emergent gameplay that people just invented out of nowhere. It was all glitches but it was still pretty cool.

Yeah back in my day we would be pop-shotting, wallbouncing, blindfiring, 2-piecing, active-reloading and no-scoping our way to glory. Not like these kids and their chainsaws.

I really enjoy Gears of war single, co-op, and versus. Always glad to know that a director is so down to earth. I hope the third game online feels more like the first game. It took them so damn long to get gears 2 up to snuff.

Next time ask them if they fixed the Matchmaking for Non-US user, please.

Outside the US we can't even play the frigging game!

I can, and always could. Maybe I had to wait up to 1 minute for a game of Guardian, but it was no hardship. I had serious, unplayable games about 1 in 30-40 games, and people using glitches to get out of the map have only happened twice since I got it when it came out. (One on Under Hill, once on Subway)
And I have a pretty bad internet connection as well, I can't stream both Spotify and YouTube simultaneously and it takes me on average 3 days to get a 1.5GB demo off XBL.

Ugh. I hate when game developers don't answer questions. It's a constant reminder that PR suits control everything in the industry, and as a journalism student, it makes me sick. I wish there will be some watershed moment when all major sites leak a preview earlier than told, to stick it to the man.

Thanks David for trying!

This is how games with over a years worth of development stay relevant. If you came right out of the gate and said everything about your game, you'll get press initially, but then interest is focused elsewhere. That doesn't do much for selling your product, does it?

I'm sure there are different factors that come into play here that you are not acknowledging. The developer might not have worked out exactly what they want to do with a certain mode so they don't want to give out info on an incomplete product that is subject to change. Then there is the hype factor. Incrementally releasing details about a game leading up to its release is much more satisfying for the consumer than hearing everything at once and waiting 2 years for a game. Heaven forbid there are some surprises waiting for us before we actually play the game.

Seeing as your a journalism student I can see why that might be frustrating, but you have to remember that it's people like you that leak things beforehand and make E3 a less and less exciting experience every year. Tbh, I like the way developers handle questions, and details will be released for the game when it is ready.

Remember, things change. New things get put in, and other stuff gets taken out.

If you blow your load on everything you plan to put in the game you risk ending with Molyneux-Fable-1-esque problems, where half the features you talked about aren't actually in the final game.

"So the four-player co-op, that'll be drop-in, drop-out, no problem? "

There was no need for two follow up questions to that. If the readers here don't know what is meant by drop in, drop out they are probably lost on the net. Or idiots.

It wasn't to simplify it for the readers, it was to clarify the type of drop in drop out co-op. A lot of games say they have drop in drop out but it's not that simple in those games, like having to wait for a save point or something.

The second one was a complete to disaster, and I feel Epic epically failed on their part to improve the multiplayer.

The online was a disaster, definitely. I do feel though that the single player improved on the first in every way.

In defense, the only reason the online was terrible was the glitches/glitchers. After the update to fix matchmaking times, it definetly improved.

They stay relevant by controlling information and act as gatekeepers. In my opinion, if the game isn't "feature locked", it isn't even worth covering, and I wouldn't allow CliffyB free advertising space for a game he isn't even willing to talk about (at least the stuff people want to know).

I only trust Cliff B now to his answers of duh..questions.

He broke my trust when he was interviewed but either Gamespot or Gametrailers about Gears of War 2.

"So in Gears of War 1, a lot of people were complaining about the host advantage, have you guys fixed that?"

"Yup, we have fixed that. Everyone should be equal now."

Ummmm?? Was I the only one who say loads of host in that game??

I know hosts are in every game, like Halo, Call of Duty, and Gears.

But since the information being sent and forth is much higher in Gears than any other game, the advantage of being host is way much higher then Halo or Call of Duty.

You could have asked if Matchmaking will be back or if we (hopefully) get something else.

And personally i would like to ask them if they will EVER find a way to supply Germany with DLC (do i hear anybody saying Game Of The Year Edition? Or DLC on Disc?).

You basically HAVE TO violate the EULA / AGB's (whatever) to buy the DLC Maps in Germany, in GoW2 they even added a part to the singleplayer campaign that i have never seen...

I am sick of sending my XBox over the PC through a VPN only to get access to something that is perfectly legal for me to buy anyway.

How about an Ingame Downloader?...
njach... they just dont care.

@Z3R0B4NG

I see your point and it does suck to live in Germany if you are a gamer. Tough regulations, but anyways I doubt they will ever do that even if it was perfectly legal. I don't live Germany however I could probably say that doing that would hurt any developer relations with the regulators or maybe the general public.

I believe that's how Gears Of War was meant to be played but all this BITCHES started complaining about what use to make the game fun and realistic and that's when we lost the true essence of what Gears Of War was at one point. Making the shotgun weaker in Gears 2 made the gameplay frustrating because it became unrealistic ( 2 to 3 shots with a shotgun up close is just ridiculous ). The pace of Gears Of War 1 was the best. Fun all around. 2-piecing someone will secure you a up close kill and when they took that off in GOW2 that's when me and most of the people on my friends list stop playing it ( If you were really good in Gears you will know how to avoid the 2-piecing, we could always see it coming )

Winning in Gears Of War 2 was based around LUCK instead of SKILLS. For instance, you shoot someone up close with a shotgun and they blow up, next time you shoot another person from the same distance and it takes 2 to 3 shots to kill him and a lot of times that person gets to turn around and shoot you ones and you die from 1 shot. The inconsistency behind it is just too much.

Im not even going to talk about the glitches and the lag that there was in Gears Of War 2 compared to Gears Of War 1 and i always thought that they will fix the lag and glitches in GOW2 but when i heard Cliffy B. in an interview say that " The Lag will never be fixed " that's when i realize i was done with Gears Of War 2. I picked up GOW 1 and 2 day one when they where released and i just don't see my self doing it this time. Im renting first and then if anything buying later. ( I never thought i will say that about a Gears Of War Game) :: Shakes Head::

By the way EPIC, i see more people playing GOW1 than GOW2 now and days. Epic did you ever think about that?? Why do we choose to play the older version than your latest one??

A lot of people gave Gears hate for number 1, and people to continue for number 2. The problem is that Gears takes a huge amount of skill to master, and some people won't put effort in. Unforunately it isn't COD where literally ANYONE can be good at it. I still stand by GOW and Halo are the only two games (out of the big 3) that take skill online. Epic games have done A LOT to try and balance the game, and fair play to them for keeping to it. Gears 3 will no doubt be a huge success like the others were. Epic have took time to make their games, instead of shitting them out like Activision do.

I love the first 2 gears of war games on multiplayer.
I'm not much for story mode so i really have no opinion on that end.

Problem is that after i wore out GOW 2, i went to call of duty MW.
Then on to Bad company 2.
Now i'm in love with earning perks, keeps me interested in playing.

I'm really not sure if i can go back to just playing for a number ranking.

I will agree with Kal above, Gears takes more skill to play than COD, that's why i love bad company 2, So much less Pray and Spray going on.

"Okay, let's try it this way: in Gears 1, a lot of people complained about opponents being able to roadie run into them, stun them with a punch and then shoot them -- and you guys fixed that with updates."

(nerdvoice)

Actually, two-piecing (melee'ing someone with the shotgun to stun them, then finishing them off with a shotgun shot while they're stunned) didn't become a major problem until Gears 2.

In Gears 1, after you melee'd someone with the shotgun there was a brief span where your next action, if done too quickly, wouldn't work (a melee or shot would literally go right through the player). Timing a two-piece properly in Gears 1 was very difficult, to the point where most people didn't typically even bother trying because it wasn't worth it. This was most likely a glitch, and like most things Gears MP related, a complete accident was actually one of their best design decisions, and upon "fixing" it in Gears 2 they just made things much, much worse.
