El Shaddai trailer is full of angels, arches and apocrypha

Ignition's upcoming adaptation of the non-canonical Book of Enoch wasn't playable at E3 last week, so the game's debut trailer (posted after the jump) is one of the few sources of info we have on El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron thus far. Of course, that info is pretty bizarre: You're a priest who's tasked with finding seven fallen angels -- a task made more difficult by said angels' hordes of followers. There are also a number of perilous platforming segments, which we doubt were taken directly from the original religious text.

Good use of the word "apocrypha," Joystiq/Griffin. It's not often that videogame blogs use words appropriately. Unfortunately for the game, If it's anything like the Book of Enoch, it will be thrillingly incoherent.

At first, i though of Nier trailers. But this seems to be less refined then ever.
The battle system seems repetitive and boring, the art visual is a 50/50 hit: sometimes it looks unique and beautiful, sometimes it's just blank.
And i simply can't stand Enoch's concept.

A Japanese developer using Jewish apocryphal/pseudopigryphal mythology attributed to Western society as a basis for a secular video game... Interesting.
As much as I love angels in video games and appreciate the uniqueness of the source material, overall it looks like about every other Japanese action/platformer in terms of gameplay. So it looks like I'll be passing on this one.

What the hell happened with the concept art? The overall imagery from the game is interesting enough with simple shapes and color. It seems that the exploratory areas are segmented with some simple 2D platforming finding it's way in there, depending on how they break up the monotony it could be interesting.
But why does Enoch look like a blond host with white whispy crap? As others have pointed out the circular armor things look like boobs and it looks like they just wrapped strappy white crap around a pair of skinny jeans for the bottom. The dude who speaks with Enoch looks like some crappy Japanese host and it goes a long way to ruin the imagery the game shows off. Just wow. How does a developer have such stupid character design choices paired with great theme and level design?
I blame Visual Kei.
