Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions coming to iPhone
36
In a continued push to bring awesome games we've loved forever onto the thing we use to make phone calls, Square Enix revealed during E3 that Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions would soon make its way to the iPhone. The teaser trailer posted after the jump features the opening cinematic from the PSP port of the game, meaning we won't have to suffer the occasionally spotty translations featured in the original PS1 version.
Square has yet to reveal the game's price, but did confirm that it would hit the App Store on September 15.

My favorite game of all time. Who would have ever thought you could play it on a cell phone? Already have it on PSP, so I am not sure I need this, but might get it just to support the awesomeness.

How about a new Tactics game SquareEnix? Not a crappy advance one. I real one. Put it on whatever format you like. I will be there.

Be careful what you wish for. Do you really want a new Tactics game without Yasumi Matsuno?

Aint no pleasin you sir. War of the Lions was awesome, save for the VA's they used in the cut scenes. Also, FFTA2: Grimoire of the Rift is easily my favorite DS or GBA game that I own. I spent 200+ hours on my first playthrough of that game. If you can't appreciate that game, you're TOO in love with the original you played. Either get used to that being the only FFT game you'll ever play, or get over it and embrace how fun the new ones are.

If this port fixes the horrible, debilitating slowdown found in the PSP version, I may seriously consider getting it.

@Loucetios I have no idea why people are down-voting you. I agree 100%. And please Square, start bringing some of these games to Android.

... Final Fantasy Tactics has been on PSN for awhile now. It pre-dates FF7 on PSN.

The PSP version had awesome bonuses. Shame that it's nearly unplayable due to the game running at almost half speed. I mean, I've played through the PS1 version over 10 times. But I can't even bothered to play through the second engagement of War of the Lions. It's THAT slow.

I agree, but the thing that kills me is that Disgaea runs BETTER on the psp than it ever did on the ps2. Maybe Squeenix should ask Atlus how it's done.
And before the anger boils over, I am not saying that Disgaea is the better game, just the better running game. Both FFT and Disgaea owned my teenage years.

FFT on PSP has a much more mature (and rewarding) story IMO... In most opinions I'm sure... but I love FFTA2. Like you said, better structure. FFT will always have that special place in my heart of being the game I played and hated because it was nothing like FF7 (my first real love of FF), but then going back to it and falling madly in love with it and enjoying my first strat RPG. It took my tile-based virginity that day.

I'm sure you wouldn't mind Sally taking your human-based virginity either.
... Sorry, couldn't resist.

What the Tactics Advance games really need are a decent story and a little bit of difficulty as well.

Screw the iPhone, 3DS please.
Also thank you for pointing us in the direction of CVG. They have some pretty bad ass shirts. i.e.
"I wish Bobby Kotick would stop talking."
"Hardcore Wii Ownder"
"I left Infinity Ward"
"Michael Pachter is Nostradamus"
"I still believe in Duke Nukem Forever"
and last but not least,
"I'm as excited as Peter Molyneux"

I really dislike the fact that people are calling this iteration a "FFT app". On the topic of sequels, i thought all three were games were awesome and wouldn't mind a sequel to either series.

I'm 26 and married =P Tactics is 13 years old, I don't think anyone who was old enough to play it at release has yet to get funky. I hope not at least.

A2 is in my top 5 games of all time for sure, you make a fantastic point. The game had such a rich world that after hundreds of hours I still can't get enough of.
That said, any Tactics game is better than none. And it just so happens, having never owned a PSP, this is the only one I have never played! I can't wait, day 1 purchase for sure.
