We've devised a fool-proof plan for getting games at zero cost on Steam: just wait for the next game in the series to come out, and pre-order said sequel. It's an offer Steam users have no doubt become familiar with in the past and one that's being extended yet again -- anyone who pre-orders Monkey Island 2: Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge before its July 7 launch will get Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for free.
Already own the remake of the first game? Well, you could take that complimentary download and gift it to a friend's Steam account. Or, you could just wait for The Curse of Monkey Island: Special Edition to come out, and then get Monkey Island 2 for free, provided you've got supernatural reserves of patience.

@SexyKOT69 The community, in tandem with the great writers, make Joystiq. Kotaku is made up primarily of borderline hentai fetish stories.

Man this is such a hard choice. Do I use my existing MS points to get the XBLA version? It's money I've technically already spent. It also has achievements, which I'm a bit of a sucker for.
On the other hand, the Steam version will be 2 games for 1 (I didn't buy MI1 since I've already beaten it a billion times), and it has the easier mouse controls, but I'd be paying for it with funds unreserved for games.
TOUGH LIFE CHOICES WITH FULL LIFE CONSEQUENCES.

I'd get the Steam version. I've played through the original a few times back in the day. I bought the XBLA version and it just feels weird playing with a controller.
Plus, with this price (basically getting both for $5 each), you'd have to wait several months to get it on XBLA.
Also, I agree with Acosta. Even though money is money is money, those points are better spent on Monday Night Combat, Limbo, Monday Night Combat, Castlevania, or Monday Night Combat.

@WiNGSPANTT from TopTierTacticsco The idea of getting chievos from Monkey Island is too hard to pass up, I'd go with the XBLA version

Will Steam ever carry the first or second game? I refuse to buy it from GameAgent, their DRM is awful.

I hate steam. I've resolved to cut down on game spending, but with these stupid specials (like the Deus Ex Collection yesterday), I'm spending more money! I LOVE YOU STEAM!
