We've read (and written!) some positive write-ups on Nintendo's recently revealed, extra-dimensional handheld, but nothing quite so glowing as the latest blog post from developer extraordinaire Warren Spector. "The 3DS changed my life," Spector explained on his personal blog. We're still trying to tell if he was being sincere, or if he was just trying to come up with a title for the nerdiest Lifetime Original Movie ever made.
"I can be pretty stubborn and when I decide I know something or I'm right about something, I don't often change my mind," he added. "Well, I just want to say I've been completely wrong about 3D all my life. I never got it before. Until now." The reason behind Spector's lack of 3D experience? He lost his ears in a tragic childhood biking accident, and has had no appendages upon which to perch special spectacles. Now we totally understand his enthusiasm.

Easy way to check: Look at any picture of Warren Specter, ever. (There are plenty.)
1) Does he have ears?
2) Is Joystiq known for inserting snarky comedy into news posts (and is that not why we love it)?
There's your answer!

@The Tim
Honestly, I thought I was done with handhelds as my DS Lite sits in a drawer and collects dust. At 27, I thought I must be growing out of them (sad phace) and was content with games on mobile, iPhone actually, but now the 3DS has completely changed my tune. I'm very excited for this handheld, and honestly it doesn't surprise me that Nintendo was the one to be able to change my mind.
But yeah... May be worth the upgrade! ;)

I'm definitely not calling Mr. Spector a liar, but I do wonder if his glowing response to the 3DS has anything to do with him working on a Nintendo exclusive right now.
Ahhh who am I kidding? We all know the 3DS is an amazing piece of tech. I heard some lady played the 3DS and it made her pregnant!

@Reploid: I don't think there are many gamers who don't have a 'soft spot for Nintendo' - at least historically if nothing else.
I'm sure 3DS is pretty good (and also sure that if Spector likes it, well, fine, he likes it). No need for conspiracy theories.
Personally, I'm trying to avoid the hype train here, but frankly, even if it's just a Nintendo handheld with PSP-level graphics (or slightly better, IF they can deliver the level of some of the demos in actual games), AND it has all the games announced so far, that's enough to be at least a little bit excited just from the facts. :)
(There's been enough hype that I expect a backlash before it's actually released. Plenty of time... Like, maybe the announcement it still uses per-game friend codes for online play will trigger the backlash? Or that you won't be able to transfer games from a DSi? I'm betting on both those things, personally...)

Uncalled for? It's a joke. The guy that lost his ear for real probably could've laughed about it. That's what people do that have certain setbacks in life, they deal with it and learn to laugh about it.
You know what's uncalled for though? This; *takes his pants off*

You are insane! Portable games when done well are sometimes even better then console counterparts, because the focus lies on the gameplay more so then graphics.
In this case, the graphical capabilities are excellent, from what I've seen/heard and well, I would think games like Star Fox 64, Zelda OOT and so on are great starts for this system.

No. You're wrong. Portable games are far from garbage.
You think Pokemon would make as much money as it does if it sucked?
Being able to take games with you on a bus, train, airplane, or car trip is without a doubt what makes portable games better than console games.

If it was the title of a Lifetime movie it would be more like "The 3DS beat my wife".

My brother is blind in one eye from a freak accident in Junior High. Want to know what his nickname is? Goodeye. Yes it sucks but hes learned to make light of it, and jokes about it regularly. Don't take things so seriously when no offense was meant.
