Bob, don't talk to yourself! Come play Team Fortress 2 with me! Have you seen the new server all the kids are playing?

Also, there were TONS of people at the Kojima signing with Peace Walker, so NYC must've put a good dent in that number!

I see an arcade every time I go to the movies. Problem is most of those games are years old. Seriously, they still have Die Hard Arcade. I think the newest games are a squad shooter and a hunting game.

The bad thing is this particular arcade used to be the best one in town. It was better than the larger dedicated one in the mall. The guy is known for never putting new machines in. If he had some good games, like Mortal Kombat 2/3, Killer Instinct 1/2, or Hydro Thunder back (all games he had, and removed) it wouldn't be so bad. Instead, the only thing that gets cycled out are hunting and squad shooter games.

That's the only reason I didn't play it the first time. Konami went out the way by ten thousand miles not to use the PSN ID in favor of the most convoluted system for online play I've ever seen. FFXI's PlayOnline was a smooth masterpiece compared to MGO :(

Yeah, Konami IDs and within that, Game IDs sucked...

After playing a few dozen rounds of MGO I realized knowing Act I of MGS4 forwards and backwards = guaranteed top player on Midtown Maelstrom. :)

i dunno, snake just looks like a totally pussy to me. That hairstyle of his is seriously retro. Also, notice that he has an eye patch on his right eye yet is aiming over his right shoulder. I doubt he'd hit the side of a barn at 10 feet like that, @#@%ing moron.

Kill a giant robotic hovercraft/nuclear tank, then kill 4 similar giant machines, then come back and call him a pussy.

And if you're just going by looks that's just how he lures you into a false sense of safety before turning you into a floating corpse.

I cashier at Wm on the weekends (hence the name), and I sold two today. Two! That's just one cashier at a busy store—who knows how many more are selling! And on the PSP, no less! I hope it sells awesome! I was amazed at the age difference between the two buyers, one a college-age kid like myself (unsurprising), the other a 30yo+ with his wife! Promising times for all those who believe in Outer Heaven!

There are still thousands of locations in the US to feature arcades. H2Overdrive sold over 2000 units; Terminator Salvation sold 1000 in it's first 30 days on the market; Silver Strike Live sold 3000 units on pre-order alone this year. All you need to do is a little searching and you can find an arcade, as someone who owns an arcade I find it extremely irritating to constantly read in the game blogosphere that "all arcades are dead" and that "there aren't any out there" as it just shows poor research. In my local area including my own spot there are FIVE places you can play arcades within a four block area, making arcades more common than Gamestops in this city. Yet we're all supposedly dead...

The thing that will really kill MGA is the price. Konami rarely does an arcade release for under $9000, MGA will probably go for $12k or more. That alone limits the game to a few locations.

@GameGrid, I've always dreamed of running my own arcade, even if it was really small. Teach me to run an arcade, wise one!! And there isn't a single decent arcade in San Francisco IMO...

All the different hardware, cabinets, and so forth... really confuse me... and the idea that people can buy a $5000 or more arcade machine and actually make a profit off of that baffles me too..

@GameGrid The problem in my area is that every "arcade" is basically something designed for the younger set. Which I have no problems with, but it doesn't make for a great playing atmosphere even if they have a decent game or two. Which they frequently don't. A real arcade can be awesome; the big one at Hershey Park is sweet, as long as not to many of the machines are out of order, and Cedar Point at least used to have a ridiculous number of retro games - though it was years ago that I was there (this is what I do on family vacations since I don't care for amusement park rides). But around here...a group of my friends actually got banned from a mall arcade. Not because they were causing trouble, just because they were a group of teenagers, which is not that target market for that sort of affair. And those type of businesses are all that there is, other than maybe three outdated games in a movie theater or bowling alley.

@GuardianLegend There is more to running an arcade than can be said in a comment here but searching for "starting an arcade business" on google is a good way to start. There are also trade magazines such as Replay and Play Meter Magazine which contain info every month on what games are doing well and how to improve business. A lot of it boils down to saving a lot of money or being able to obtain enough to start, picking the right games, the right location with enough foot traffic, etc. Unless you have access to a lot of capital you wouldn't be able to have all new games which is why many arcades have old stuff - I have a CarnEvil, a King of Fighters '98, Street Fighter 3, TMNT, MS. Pac-Man and Gauntlet Legends that all pull in decent earnings every week. But I also have a Terminator Salvation, Blazing Angels, Tokyo Drift, Big Buck Safari, Chase HQ2 and House of the Dead 4- all newer games which make several times more a week each by themselves than the old stuff combined. But each of those cost anywhere between $4000- $9000 and take up a bit of space so even though they do better, they take longer to pay themselves off. That's why many arcades will charge $1 to play on new stuff.

@KeenCommander I know what you mean, the classic style arcade isn't very common anymore because unfortunately it's with those ticket redemption games where most places make their money. But every area is different - I run an arcade where 99% of it caters to everyone, i.e. it's all video games. That's my own choice though and it hasn't been easy - had I catered just to kids I could be making a lot more money. Part of the problem though is what I am talking about in my original comment. It does not help our business when there is a consistent drumbeat in game journalism that we are dead or when arcade news is simply ignored(the other day I sent a tip to several sites including Joystiq about Sega bringing GRID to arcades, most sites ignored that except for Sega fan sites, not the first time I've seen a tip involving arcades go that way). Sure we have our own issues, like you said finding a place you like, with the right games which are fully functioning can vary depending upon where you live. That's still no reason to write something like we saw in this post, and I've read similar comments often on other sites. Why does Konami, Sega, Namco, Raw Thrills, GlobalVR, Andamiro, Incredible Technologies and others still produce arcade content if the arcade scene is dead?

It feels like I'm only person on Earth who thought Peace Walker was a colossal disappointment, and I'm a huge MGS fan. Awful, unnecessarily hard boss fights, an inconsequential plot, no memorable characters, pointless micromanagement, frustrating controls and boring, repetitive gameplay. "MGS5 class" - what a joke. The truth is, this was a massive step backwards after MGS4.

It seems Kojima is determined to piss all over the MGS series by milking it with all these second rate, retcon-laden prequels. He needs to take something like a five-year break from MGS to work on something exciting, like ZOE3.
