Waiting on what app? They didn't give you a disc as a temporary fix- that's just simply the way they decided to add the functionality on that particular platform.

I guess it's more of a hope. If it stays disc that's fine.

@Vcize
As to the OMG $3... yeah, I make my own money. $3 takes me about 7 minutes of work to make. Hell the $35 you can find gold on sale for take me about an hour and a half to make... Guess what. Still not worth it if I'm not going to use the online gaming component. The argument for Gold is you pay for the Online Gaming and everything else is value added...

So paying $3 a month to be able to access functions that are only Gold level so Gold looks more valuable is not something I'm willing to do.

I'm just glad the PS3 is adding the same functionality (and with my luck they'll make it PS3+ only)

And when you pay for your trash pickup, you're also paying for tree branch pickup even if you don't have any trees in your yard.

And when you paid for a ps3 a few years back when they were more expensive because of the costs of blu-ray/wifi at the time, you were paying for blu-ray/wifi even if you didn't intend to use it.

That's how stuff works sometimes. If it makes you feel better, think of it as $3 extra to be able to control Hulu with your voice if you have connect, or to use whatever silly social features they have planned for Hulu on XBL. Don't want any of that and also have a PS3? Then use it on the PS3 instead. No here cares, and if you think that MS is trying to convince silver members that also have a PS3 to pick up XBL gold for this, you're being silly. You're not their target, you have a PS3, so use that and quit whining about how 3 dollars is the end of things for you. Chances are that you, like most of us, waste well over 10 times the cost of XBL on random stuff you'll never use every year.

@(Unverified) The PS3 will have it's Netflix app November. Until then we use the disc. There's two options: Use it now, and put in a disc, or don't use it at all until November.
I'd rather use the disc so I have access to the service now.

So I have to wait until 2011 because they're making a controller free navigation and adding party support?? Who care's if I have to use a controller and why would I ever want to watch a TV show in a virtual online party??

my guess is that its more Sony beat MS at their own game getting a 6 month+ exclusive on HULU.

The delay just means I will have enough time to "wait and see" if the $10/month is worth it.

I probably wouldn't make the decision until 'early 2011' regardless.

The nail in the coffin. I expect this service to do poorly, especially considering how much crossover there is between the purported "premium" content of Hulu and Netflix. I can already watch the entirety of Arrested Development on demand and most seasons of NBC's offerings like 30 Rock and The Office. (Though with NBC Universal owning Hulu, it's probably only a matter of time before they pull their content from Netflix's streaming component.)

Hey, does this 25 million number include those outside of the U.S.? Cause the last time I checked I haven't got my Netflix, Last.fm and Zune Video. I'm not holding my breath for Hulu.

Where's my leveraged social connectivity, bitches?!

I wonder if the real delay is to allow for a Hulu port to Silverlight. Since that infrastructure already exists on Xbox for Zune and Netflix.

Or maybe it's reverse Netflix and Sony locked up a timed exclusive.

I have a question about the controller free interface. Will Kinect be able to distinguish the 'Stop' command gesture from, let's say a sneeze for example, if it's a similiar motion? I'd hate to keep interupting my playback because someone on the couch is fidgeting around. Or worse, having to stay perfectly still.

@Zepinephrine

At E3 they showed video being controlled via voice commands; so that may be an option here, too.

But usually motion controls are designed to not be done unintentionally, i.e. having to hold your hand over a pause button for a full second to pause it.

I wouldn't be so sure about NBC pulling it's content because it owns Hulu. Sony Pictures is available on XBox (i think). It's a different division and it's all about making money. If their number crunchers and lawyers see a profitable deal they would probably take it.

Ok i get it, Microsoft is building a custom interface to work with Kinect so that you can hover select or something. I'm sure they will make it similar to the other applications they have currently in use on XBL, but seriously? 2011? The only update we are getting this year to XBL is ESPN, which is great an all, but why not just bundle Hulu into that update too, then when Kinect comes out, push out one to add functionality to it. Or push it out before!

We are supposed to look forward to these big yearly dashboard updates now that they don't happen twice a year any more, and this year we just get ESPN. Early 2011 will more then likely extend to E3 to have that sweet ass announcement attached to it.

sigh

So, is Hulu Plus on XBOX going to be free to Gold Members, or is it just that Gold Members will also get the "luxury" of paying $10/month to access Hulu Plus on top of their XBOX Live gold yearly subscription cost? Cause, I already pay $9/month for Netflix, can't see Hulu as being worth another $10.

It sucks that it is going to take so long to get Hulu on 360, but I'm sure the UI will be much better than on any other device just like Netflix. Also the voice command and gesture control features with Hulu will be awesome. And now that they have the XBL family plan everyone in the house can use ESPN/Netflix/Hulu/Zune for movies and TV shows.

If you have an Xbox 360 and you don't have a Gold account you are either extremely cheap or completely clueless.

I appreciate that MS is making the value proposition sweeter for Gold members. I won't pay any extra for Hulu, though, regardless of format. Give me searchable Netflix in the next update and I'll move my 360 into the living room and maybe ditch the cable.

So thanks to Kinect everything is going to be delayed so a motion-friendly version of everything will be available? I might as well get a Kinect, that way I will get full value from the delays... or I could just throw my xbox out the window and not give a cr**. Something is telling me I should go for the 'middle ground' so I can continue to enjoy the great 3rd party games and secretly hate myself for being a cheap bastard with an xbox 360.

^^ That was a troll-style rant I made for fun. What I do believe though is that the xbox 360, as a gaming 'platform', will get stale quickly compared to other platforms (this is an always-connect constant-update era of consoles). They have to delay things now that they have Kinect. Sure Kinect will be a great product, but these will be challenging times for MS to release features it wants to as they will have to cater for two input methods. Core gamers may lose interest if, xbox, in it's mission to lure in the casuals, forgets that they are used to constantly receiving great updates. Hopefully they will develop a system that enables them to support both 'input types' instantly, which will allow them a regular release schedule.
