Tapulous, maker of the popular Tap Tap Revenge rhythm games for iPhone, has announced the arrival of the latest entry in the series: Nickelback Revenge. Now, this normally wouldn't rate very high on our interest-o-meters, if not for the critical comments about music games made by Nickelback signer Chad Kroeger back in late 2008, telling gamers to "put down the Guitar Hero" and start real bands.
Today, Kroeger is signing a different tune. "The combination of our music and Tapulous' gameplay is very cool," the band's frontman said of the game. "We're excited to give our fans a fun, interactive way to experience our music." Surely not more fun or interactive than playing a real guitar, in a real band. Right, Chad? Right?
Hey, at least Nickelback hasn't let its music appear in any other music games, let alone one that uses plastic guitars. What? Oh.

The thing with Nickelback is they attract criticism because people don't like their music pointing to a lack of originality or whatever else.
The reason Nickelback get it worse is a combination of that and the fact Chad Kroeger is a self-regarding asshole.

I don't find the two comments being compared to be all that... comparable. The only comparison I can draw is that they both relate to music video games. One comment generally states, "if you're interested in making music then learn to play music, not games." The other statement basically says, "Now our fans have another way of lining our pockets. I like this."
Big whoop Joystiq. I know your trying to sell clicks but please keep the flamebait articles focused on things gamers actually like.

"suddenly considers music games 'very cool'"
And their music will never be in any good/real music games. See: DJMAX/beatmania.

I know someone who likes Nickleback. They also don't know who Freddie Mercury is.

Here's the thing, I do not like Nickleback. I will be honest about that, I also like a lot of music other people don't like so I'm not slamming people who do like this band but WHO are they? I have never once in real life met a person who likes them. They won Junos here in Canada, they sell albums so unless they are buying their own records some one must like them. The one thing I read when they won a Juno (which is interesting) is they won the Juno (tied to record sales) because their audience is older so it skews to people who still buy CDs.
I just chalk their success up to the same mystery as Avril Levine and Celine Dion (the other monsters my country turned loose,) something I simply will not understand. Just one day I'd like to meet one of these mythical fans though if only to touch one to proove it's not some strange conspiracy from the music industry.

Nickelback look like a pack of Neanderthals to such an extent that I'd be willing to bet that Ötzi the Iceman killed himself so he wouldn't have to listen to Nickelback.

I just want to point out Nickelback have been in music games for awhile, now. They were added to the Lips game last year, around October. You can sing their songs. A friend of mine has the game, but I don't feel the need to play it (the pop music in it annoys me).
Anyways, I don't get the Nickelback hate, either.
Their songs all sound the same? That never hurt AC/DC did it?
Chad Kroegers a pretentious douchebag? Yeah, so is Lars Ulrich, but Metallica still makes a f-ton of money.
People like to hate people, and thats all there is to it.
