Firmware version 6.3 is out and as Fist Full of Potions points out, something's rotten in Denmark -- or very sweet, depending on how you feel about Japanese consoles of yesteryear. The update allows you to "group content" by putting your games into specific folders corresponding to platform, but also curiously adds empty folders for the NeoGeo and PC Engine -- otherwise known as the TurboGrafx-16.
This update could be the precursor to an announcement for the PC Engine Archives extending their reach beyond Japan or it could simply be an overlooked byproduct of the update. Either way, we've contacted Sony for comment and will let you know what we find out.

I'll say. It seems Sony's on a roll lately with good ideas.

it's assholes like you that pirate shit who are causing 3rd party devs to shy away from the PSP.
it's assholes like you that are effectively killing the PSP.
i hope you get robbed for everything you own one day.

TBH, I hate those who pirate games. :/
I cant say I've NEVER done it, but I pirate with the intentions to buy when I find it.
For example, prey. Downloaded it and played on PC, till I could find it on 360 - found it on 360, bought it, deleted it from PC.

There is more to custom firmware than just pirating, but I do agree it is what's keeping 3rd party devs from making games for it. Every PSP owner with CFW is guilty of it at least once or twice.
Some people just want to get more out of it for what they paid for, as I have. Such as homebrew apps, emulators and games. Though the trade-off is missing out on the newer features. Sucks for me. :(

Custom Firmware and filthy pirate are not mutually inclusive. Save your vitriol for someone who actually admits to pirating rather than biting off the head of anyone remotely related to it.

The PSP doesn't remember my folder settings. I choose to sort games by format but next time I check the memory stick it's back in list form. Useless feature.

NeoGeo games would be awesome, granted they're not over priced like they are on VC.

I use the custom firmware but I also purchase games, custom firmware doesn't make you a pirate, it makes you a person who enjoys extended battery life (no need for UMD) and more apps/utility :)
It can also mean you're a pirate.

Apparently I'm not old enough to have been around for the NeoGeo era...

My PSP has been unable to boot up UMDs ever since I ran this update.
