Level-5's White Knight Chronicles may have had some issues, but it's not stopping the company from pursuing a sequel, set to be released in Japan next month. It would seem the series is also extending to Sony's PSP, as the latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu (via Andriasang) reveals a PSP entry set for a 2011 launch.
While White Knight Chronicles 2 wraps up the story of Leonard and the events set in motion by the first game, the PSP game will introduce a new story and characters. "And then, to a new world," the text on the teaser page announces. "White Knight Chronicles New Project. A story of your avatar and new allies, told on the PlayStation Portable, is set to start in 2011."

Why? Don't you like buying $40 brand new games only to find out they're junk b/c you didn't take the time to watch/read reviews or try a demo first?

The first WKC was slightly bland as RPGs go. Everything was predictable right down to the villains. Though the locations in the game were really awesome and imaginative like the city on the back of the monster. The create your own combo was pretty slick as well. I just hope the second one has more meat to it.

Y'know, I never understood the hate WKC got. Yeah, it's not a phenomenal game, but it's not terrible either. It's the epitome of 7.5 rating. I really liked the game, and had a ton of fun with it.
I hope the PSP game is just as good, or better.

@Marzz I think people just were expecting more from it with all of the hype. The game world was fairly empty, but at least the online part was cool. It felt a bit like a watered down MMO. Still it was fun to play. Maybe it was that the difficulty was fairly low in the game?

Level 5 is my favorite developer and WKC was the first game to let me down from them. If only the battle chip system gave the player more control over which combos the computer allies used. Also, the combat sort of pretends to be a real time / turn based hybrid but it's really not because you can get hit with melée attacks even at long range once combat is engaged. The formula is there but I think the delivery failed. Sad because it was my most hyped game. Still good but not rpg goty like I thought it'd be.

This game was the reason I had bought a PS3. I'm hoping the y make some tweeks here and there for the PSP version.

It's annoying when a series jumps formats, especially from console to handheld.

Pretty cool news. It looks like the PSP is actually starting to kick some ass and getting some worth while games: Peacewalker, Birth by Sleep, Valkyria Chronicles, The 3rd Birthday, God of War, among others.
Add another to the list.
WKC was fairly bland but the game was fun to play. I still thinks it's better than FFXIII.

From what I saw of the first game, the story seemed pretty unbearable, and I dont think the giant knight gimmick was pulled off particularly well.
But the multiplayer and the customisation elements inparticular seemed rather cool, and I'm still considering getting the game just to try those out. Don't know anything about WKC2, but hopefully these new versions place a bigger focus on these elements.

The story and lore about the knights is actually really well done. The characters were even very believable and likable. The problem for me was the way that the combat was handled in terms of the AI. If you ever played Jeanne d'arc on psp you'd have more insight into the knights themselves since there is def a loose connection between the armlets. It's certainly not gimmicky.

I loved WKC. It's like Final Fantasy XI with a single-player mode, and battle system done right.
IF this comes out for PSP, this would be a day one purchase for me. Guaranteed no-pirate, I'll buy a real copy!
