Final Fantasy 14 launches Sept. 30 on PC, March 2011 on PS3

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV will be launched on Windows PCs worldwide on September 30 -- well, provided you've obtained the game, installed it and then clicked on the launch shortcut. This step comes after you've made a choice between two different versions of the anticipated MMORPG: a standard edition, which will retail for $49.99, and a $74.99 Collector's Edition.
The latter edition will enable early access to the game on September 22nd ("subject to initial server capacity," Square Enix warns) and will include a making-of DVD, a Final Fantasy XIV-branded security token, an art book, special cover art by Yoshitaka Amano, a "fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate" and a stat-boosting Onion Helm item for pre-orders (Standard Edition pre-orders get ze "Garlond Goggles," they do nothing in real life). Both versions offer 30 days of gameplay upon purchase, with one playable character and one non-playable character playing the undignified role of item retainer. Should you choose to continue exploring the world of Eorzea, Eorfee will be $12.99 per month.
Oh, and just a reminder that PS3 is one of several consoles that won't be able to play Final Fantasy XIV in 2010 -- since Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV will only arrive on Sony's system in "early" March 2011. Pricing for that version will be announced at a later time.

I feel rather frustrated about FFXIV.
On the one hand, I am looking forward to it from an MMO standpoint. I actually did really enjoy FFXI, thanks to the deep story compared to most other MMOs, the graphics (WoW was just too ... damn cartoony for me), and yes, even the tank-like controls when you consider all the reflexive button hitting in games like WoW, Aion, and the like. FFXIV from beta testing seems to have really stepped it up, visually as well as in terms of how the game plays.
But I'm loathe to the fact that Square-Enix decided it had to stick with the same pricing method for new characters after the first. I can live with $13, but good god, $3 per each additional character? That's really pretty disgusting.
I'm sure they have their reasons (you know, besides making a dime), but who in their right mind charges that much? I have friends who I may very well not end up able to be on the same server with in the beginning because they'll be late comers with the PS3 release, and if they end up elsewhere with other folks they know, I either never play with them, or shell out $3 per every other place I'd like to play on.
It just smacks of disrespect to the consumer, I think.

The reason they are delaying the PS3 release is simple. Releasing it on pc first will allow the first wave of gamers to join the severs, over the next 6 months the servers populations will grow until the next influx from the ps3 release, they don't want to release it on every format at the same time. The starting towns would be to crowded and major lag would ensue.. And it also gives each sever a nice even spread of levels and skill. I am a PS3 owner but I won't be waiting till march next year so i will get the PC version. My only question is if i buy the pc version and play for 6 months then buy the PS3 version will I be able to use my use my PC login detail on the PS3 and keep my character. I don't se why not, it worked on final fantasy xi
