Halo Elite costume sets the bar for DIY

Oh, you've made your own assault rifle from Halo? That's cute. Wait, you've made your own Spartan suit? Meh, it's okay, we guess. See, the dudes at Peter Mander FX have ruined us forever, because they've produced about the best homage to Halo one could ever hope for: the ultra-realistic Elite suit you see above.

Largely comprised of plastic, TLC and dark magicks, the suit not only looks impressive, but it's animatronic. We can't imagine the blood, sweat and/or tears it took to produce such a lifelike recreation of this Covenant class, but we can get some idea from the video documenting the creation of this behemoth, which you can find past the break.

@Nytemare Everyone should check out their Spartan. You can see it at the very tail end of this video. And in the brief moments you see it, it's easily looks like the best Spartan costume anyone has ever made.

That thing's got nothing on my Voltron costume from 5th grade...unless you're counting height...in yards.

No one word can describe the awesomeness of this Animatronic Costume.

...I wish I had even the tiniest amount of talent as this guy has.

It looks GREAT. Just needs a little work on making the neck less stiff and WHAM, incident of man getting shot for wearing ultra realistic alien costume.

AFAIK if it's animatronic, no one is wearing it.

@(Unverified) From a strictly technical standpoint, you're correct. The word "animatronics" was originally created by the Disney folks as a cool name for the fully robotic characters at their parks (their original, trademarked name was the ungainly Audio-Animatronics). But these days animatronics is often used as a catch-all term for any mechanical animation of characters, whether they're robots, worn suits, or puppets. So if this Elite suit has doohickeys that make the mouth move, the eyes blink, etc., then using the term isn't entirely off base.

chicken feed compared to the fallout 3 laser rifle replica i know it's a bad comparison but hey attach the laser from a cd drive along with a good power supply modify the laser a bit and boom you got a very infective laser rifle capable of minor skin irritation

I never thought the Elites looked that scary in Halo... but my god, if I saw that thing charging at me on the streets at night I'd throw up in my pants.

If you saw the cutscenes for halo wars [and please do they're bang-up awesome] you'd see that the elites were grievously nasty compared to the troops, and the spartans were ridiculously huge also, but not elite-sized.

I always felt like Bungie failed to properly convey a sense of scale in regards to MC versus the world in the Halo series. But yeah, this hulking Elite would strike terror into anyone, especially with a squad of other elites behind him, all blasting away with plasma rifles.

I'd say this costume is a solid argument against the CG-ification of movies in general as well.

What can you say, people with skills. It's amazing how they make this stuff with rubber and foam.
Artists to the end all of those guys.

That really is outstanding. Great attention to detail and craftsmanship. I'm jealous of their workshop, too. It's like a poor man's Tony Stark lab.
