Wow, I'm not shelling out $10 a month for a service to watch TV with ads, and another $50 a year to watch it on my PS3. The only sub fee that's coming out of my pocket is for Netflix.

If hulu replaced me having to pay my cable company $60 bucks a month then $10 bucks is totally worth it. But not the $50 for PSN+. I can't think of why I really need that (as in having a desire to have)

Not if Sony starts forcing you to have like Microsoft does. You can't do jack shit online with a silver account. Sony the best at copying what works so you just wait and see what they will do with PSN+...

H.264 codec has marginally better quality, massive industry support, and lots of tools support it, compared to WebM.

Thank you. There is no such thing as an original idea anymore. Everyone is just copying someone else's idea. Sony should stick to keeping most of its online functions free though, much like a PC. There is nothing that Microsoft offers that I can't get on a PC and atleast my PC doesn't charge me 50 dollars a year on top of internet charges to play the games I buy online. Once Sony starts that internet robbery crap too then I might just move to the Wii... and that will be a sad day. Maybe a PSP is the only way to go...

I still wish I had a PS3 instead, but this makes me wish a little less, even though I'm not in America so I can't use Hulu. This is the future of Playstation network. But I must say that Sony actually improves the PS experience through updates unlike the xbox, I guess that can be said since the xbox live service is still ahead with certain things but still, they (PS) are doing new things that xbox doesn't. The few new things that are added to xbox live are only available to US users. Last-fm isn't available on live in regions outside the US where you can use it on the website (for example). At-least Foxtel is coming soon to Australia (but we have to pay for foxtel as well as gold and that still has advertisements so what is the base gold subscription really giving us, I argue that online gaming should be allowed for free but that is for another discussion). Yes it sucks being the minority, but just because we are a smaller market doesn't mean we have to be ignored (we pay three times as much for games). Playstation3 owners, the free account ones, get services in our country that xbox live owners could only dream of having. The biggest innovation available at the moment is Zune video marketplace, but you can only rent movies. Fair enough anyway because our country's internet is in the stone age.

Well well well it looks like the only thing PS3 has going for it is Blu-Ray now, pretty soon certain games will require the + service to play online. My bets are all Sony first party AAA titles will require + to play.

@Mofetti

It's a sad day in gaming when you realize that Playstation and Microsoft are running their companies with micro-transactions much like Facebook. Giving you a taste of things but if you want the real cool sh*t you got to pay us.

This was expected. As the PS3 gets more popular, it seems the free online is going to get more expensive to maintain. But if I'm honest PSN+ is going to need a lot to hook me in, they need some movie deals too, for example 1-2 free rentals a month.

Why isn't anyone mentioning Play On? I'm sure you can watch Hulu Plus with a ONE TIME payment of 20 bucks and watch all the Hulu Plus you want without PSN Plus or XBL Gold.

Here i'll end the PSN vs Xbox Live debate.

Family of 4 PSN, free or $50. Your choice.
Family of 4 Live, $100. No choice.

Family of 5 PSN, free or $50. Your choice.
Family of 5 Live, $150. No choice.

Shut up already Microsoft Employees... I mean XBox fans.

Its all about perception .
When i used to play Quake , it was free. Id rather use gamespy it was also free or pay a charge for enhanced features, Id paid (I think it was like 10 bucks ,I cant remember) . Now for the people hosting the server Im sure their charges was more than mine, and they weren't Paid Id employees , they were just gamers .
Everquest (sony family) was 10 bucks a month roughly 120 a year and was worth it then . Theyre running servers ,maintaining it, upgrading,Its not cheap .
Then came XBL 50 bucks a year ... Did anyone catch that i used to pay 120 bucks a year ? For one games, vs any game i want (relative) to talk to my friends and Cross game chat blah blah blah. It was a deal to me.

Then instead of getting MORE expensive , they add Netflix and other features , For the whopping price of FREE.99 ? So from My point of view im was already paying for online play , now however many years later i can use the box to watch netflix, i was already paying to stream on the computer with no added cost ? thats a steal .

Perception.... No one goes into it thinking hey, I have to pay for netflix and XBL , theyre already doing it for the original uses they were intended , its FREE to join them together.

Man this is a bummer. I was one of the few people out there genuinely anticipating the arrival of Hulu on PS3 or 360. We recently cut back our cable service so it's pretty bare bones and have gotten accustomed to watching our favorite shows on Hulu. I actually prefer it to using a DVR now. But of course it would be that much better watching through my home theater setup. I'm happy to pay Hulu $10 a month (well, maybe not happy, but okay with it). I really have zero interest in Playstation Plus. I'm tempted to just wait until it releases on 360, but that's a long wait. I really can't think of any other reason to get Playstation Plus than to use Hulu. So maybe I'll do that, but it'll only be once and never again. Never again, Sony!
