Iron Spider-Man is Amazon 'Shattered Dimensions' bonus ... unlock
26
What If... Cosmic Spider-Man and Iron Spider-Man were pitted against each other as opposing retailer pre-order bonus characters? Further complicating the continuity of a not-so-tidy superhero storyline, Amazon is offering to manipulate the appearance of the Iron Spider-Man costume in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions' 2099 dimension for your pre-order purchase of the game. In other words, "you'll receive a code to unlock Iron Spidey early," explains HeroHQ, Activion's Marvel games web base. Amazon will also ship you an art book.
Sulking there in the background, the previously revealed GameStop pre-order bonus, Cosmic Spider-Man, is playable in all four of the game's dimensions (of which still only three have been revealed). Cosmic Spidey will actually have a unique look in each dimension and is being advertised as a true "exclusive" for GameStop pre-order purchases (but is not listed as a bonus for the Wii version of the game).
Not such a thrilling "What If" scenario, after all. Now, if we add Spider-Ham to the equation ...

It would make more sense if Iron Spider was exclusive to the 616 dimension, considering that's the one he's from.

We are STILL doing this retail exclusive nonsense? *sigh*
Just tell me they actually become available after some months for the general public...

Activision keeps telling me they don't seem to care much about the notion I have that I want to play the entire content of the disc I bought.
So I just sorta expect it when I see the Activision label. Thank goodness this generation of gaming is so great that I can buy new games from other publishers, and get the Activision stuff used for $15 down the road.
When I play this game (and I am very interested in it), I will be able to accept the fact that I didn't get all the content because I didn't pay full price anyway.
And in this particular case, I probably would have bought the game, day 1. Let's work together as gamers to reward the wallet of devs who ensure we get all the content.

Awesome.
Pre-order bonuses are fun.
PS- Did you know the Transformers character pre-order bonus DLC is selling for $30-$90 'each' on Ebay?
Insanity.

Who would not care enough about a game to not pre-order it, and then suddenly care enough about bonus DLC to pay $90 for it? I'm so confused.

@CaramelZappa I think it's because everyone thought the game would suck, so nobody pre-ordered it.
Then it turns out it's really, really good.. and pre-order DLC becomes a commodity.

These retailer exclusive things just need to die already.

I thought this costume was known as Gold-Spidey just before Civil War, not Iron Spidey, even though the suit was designed by Tony Stark....

@Cakes94 Pretty sure it was always Iron Spidey, if not at that time, then the 3 MVP clones went by Iron Spider during Dark Reign

Scarlet Spider would be an insta-buy for me. It'd be awesome if he was the final dimension. But of course everyone hates the clone arc.

I'm confused by the title of the article. Is the iron spider going to be available in the game by itself and preordering at amazon only lets you unlock it without doing whatever unlocking criteria there otherwise would have been? Also, the Iron Spider is only available in 2099?

Is everyone assuming the last dimension will also be a male Spider-man? Boring. I'm betting it's Spider-Girl or one of the Spider-Women. :)

I absolutely loved the original Spider-Girl storyline, as it was pretty believable and potentially "canon" to the Spider-man we know and love. That would make a great dimension, but Spider-Girl's universe is neither new enough (v. 2099) and too the same (v. normal Spidey)

Zombie Spidey would sell like hot-cakes. But imo, the Amazon deal isn't all so wonderful. It was kind of like the special Armor on Arkham Asylum Wal-Mart, I think it was, gave you with the pre-order that you unlock when you complete the game. Not enough incentive for me to buy the game through Amazon, ya dig?

That's nice and all but the costume is unlockable. Only Gamestop has a true pre-order bonus. This isn't really that much of an issue buddy.

This is an issue to me, as a consumer. I do not have the time to play this game of figuring out what the hell I need to do to get the content. Where to buy, what's available, what isn't.
It's silly. That's what the activision label means to me. I'll buy it used and accept that I'm getting less. Everyone wins except activision.

You care so much about the pre-order /bonus/ that you're going to go out of your way not to support the company, but you care little enough to not have it in the end?
You don't have the time to spend 2 minutes figuring which pre-order bonus you either want or don't want, yet you have the time to take gaming as a hobby?
I'm seeing a lot of contradictions. Sounds like you're just being a bit of a brat to me personally.

I'm a bit confused by this as well...
HeroHQ says "you’ll receive a code to unlock Iron Spidey early." Which sounds right as I read somewhere before that it unlocks when you beat the game.
But Amazon states - "Explore the 2099 Dimension as Spider-Man in the Amazon-exclusive Tony Stark-designed Iron Spider-Man costume."
So is it unlockable in the game or is it really and Amazon exclusive?? And why can it only be used in the 2099 universe? That makes even less sense!
