Nyko's Raven controllers for the PlayStation 3 look good and feel, well, the company uses the term "silky," but we honestly can't think of better description than "plastic velvet." Don't feel weird about rubbing it against your cheek to really experience the odd softness -- we did. The Raven will come in a regular PS3 configuration and an "alternate" version (pictured) -- which is an Xbox 360-style configuration. Both versions are designed with concave triggers and an actual d-pad.
The controllers are priced at $35 and will be available later this summer. They connect wirelessly using a USB dongle. And now comes the real treat: check out the promotional video for the Raven after the break.

@MrCheeks Same here, playing Uncharted 2 would have been better x2 if the triggers could have been alternately switched. and that's coming from a devout PS1/2 owner, the 360 controller just feels right somehow crappy hardware and all.

I couldn't agree more. If this controller turns out to be good, I'm all over it.

exactly. in most respects i love the dual shock design. but the only thing that I really like about the xbox controller is the concave thumb sticks. makes it much easier to retain control over teh stick for long periods of time without having to reposition due to slippage.

yea i think both controllers have their high points. i think the 360 controller is a little big and prefer the feel of the Dual Shock but the 360's triggers and concave thumbsticks are the best. and of course the PS3's D-Pad is the tits.

@hxczuner Funny thing is when I first tried the PS3 controller I didn't like it, but after playing my PS3 extensively I have not problem switching back and forth between controllers. I will say my hands did hurt for the first couple of days from the awkward postion, but the body adapts to everything if given the chance. I have no preference but I wouldn't mind trying this controller out since I like controllers a lot especially 1st party because of quality.

If this controller is good build quality it will have removed my last excuse for not owning a PS3. My back pocket is getting wet due to the weeping of my wallet at the thought of getting involved in another console...

The 360 controller is hands down the best controller done so far.
Someone could win a lot just by making a 360-esque ps3 control, and Niko might just be the winner for that.
There are even ps360 custom controllers like that already out there.
Alternatively despite its flaws a lot of people like the ps3 control, so there's definitely that market out there too specially considerinf how awesome the 360's D pad is for some games.
Not very awsome.

I got replacement analog sticks for the classic Xbox controller (not the 360) and they fit the PS2 controller pretty well,(and I think the PS3 has the same analog sticks as PS2, if not you could try replacing them with the actual 360's analog sticks) though you have to take the controller apart to install them. To me, it was worth it.
The other thing that i don't like about the PS3 controller is the convex shoulder triggers, but they sell caps that fit over them to provide a convex trigger.

I think the 360 controller feels like a brick with buttons... but to each his/her own, right? A buddy of mine also loves the 360 controller and tends to go with the 360 version of games like Lost Planet, Call of Duty, etc. as he feels more comfy with it where shooters are concerned.
Maybe, with this, I can get him to get the PS3 versions and play some damn co-op with me... lol

I'll throw in a +1 for the 360 controller, PS3 controller feels too small and the triggers and analog sticks feel awkward. 360 controller sits much better in my hands, although of course the D-pad is crap.

Same here. I cant stand the feel of the 360 remote, or the inverted dpad and stick. It just doesnt feel natural.

Seriously? I can't figure this logic. The NES controller worked too, but even as a kid I appreciated the improvements of the SNES's design and layout.
Every other gaming system on the planet has upgraded and improved their controller design and ergonomics while Sony coasts forward with an antique in terms of electronics. How people give them a pass with this is beyond me.

I like the triggers on the 360 controller much better than the L2/R2 on the PS3 controller. This may be a nice step but I've never had good luck with third party peripherals.

If that's all you need, then check thee out for $5. I have them, and they make a ton of difference. Look great too.

there is a reason Sony has kept the same form factor for 15 years....and for that reason I stick with only the original controllers since year 2 of the PS2.....shitty ass MadCatz controllers still give me bad memories....

It did change when they added analog, and the sticks still feel very forced in a tight space. I don't know about you but my hands get tight and cramp after holding the controller for a while as its too small for my large man hands.

Yeah, because they're Japanese and resistant to outside ideas.
It's the same reason they're losing ground across the game industry spectrum.

@matthugh yea they did add those sticks...but that was like 97? it wasn't that long after the PS one came out I dont think.....the desgin of the controller is still pretty much the same tho....I'm 6'4" and my hands arent small either.....I have no issues....although I dont hold the controller for longer than 3 hours straight....even when I play 15+ hours on weekends....I stop in between chapters or while a match is loading and get some food...use the bathroom etc....

I always hated the lower shoulder buttons on the Dualshock, but I don't think 360 triggers are any better. Ironically, I've used a MadCatz that actually felt good to use because the lower shoulder buttons were actually placed closer to the bottom which made it easier to press.

When I was a young lad my cousin traded my regular SNES pad for one that he said was "way better!". It had a turbo button and other crazy crap, but even at the tender age of 10 I knew it was a raw deal. I love the idea of a 360 paddle on my ps3...but I still feel the burn of shitty 3rd party accessories, even if they have gotten better. As for my cousin? now he's in prison and he feels a burn every time he pees.
