Pity that they shortchanged PS3 version by using old GTA4 engine.

If by "shortchanged" you mean that both games are running the exact same modified GTA4 engine while the 360 version enjoys about 80 more lines of resolution, then yes. The difference is hardly noticeable unless you stand 2 feet away from your television. I own the PS3 version and it looks just fine, thanks.

I own both systems and have played it on both systems. They're exactly the same, with the exact same issues in the exact same spots.

The only downside to the PS3 version is the resolution, but I could barely tell the difference. Now please, spread your bullshit on your own toast and eat it.

Wait a minute! This is an actual issue for you? Must have sucked for you playing every single console before this generation then.

If a few pixels less removes the ability to immerse yourself in a game, you have bigger issues than just pixel count.

Did Super Mario Galaxy 2 lose the fun factor for being on the Wii? No.

Do I have any issues going back and playing my N64 or playing games on my PC from 5 years ago? No.

Do I have issues playing on my DS, or even original Gameboy, because of graphics? No.

It's a sad generation for gaming when critique really has came down to pixel count. No wonder many games are turning to generic crap. All you care about is pixel count, so as long as that is fine, you'll buy it.

You must have amazing eyesight then. Or it's something about your TV. RDR looks great to me, on PS3, on my 36" TV. It really is (nearly) impossible to see THAT huge of a difference. I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying the game anyhow. Like an above commenter in the thread said - if graphics matter that much to you, you might as well get both consoles. And STFU.

And about this lens of truth thing... I usually don't argue about these, but I'm calling bullshit on this. My screen was NEVER that blurry throughout the game. I have no idea what type of screen they're using to capture/compare, but I'm 100% positive that those are completely inaccurate representations of how the game looks on PS3.

Actually, I have to say Super Mario Galaxy 2is really let down by its lack of HD.
There are truly beatiful worlds full to the brim with colour and creatures, but I can't see it clearly because of a tiny resolution and no AA!

Sure, in something like New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart it doesn't really matter that much, but in truly epic games like Galaxy, Zelda and Okami it really does spoil a great part of the atmosphere and experience.

I really didn't like this game. I'm not trying to troll or anything like that, I just don't understand why it's so popular. This is going to sound ranty, beware.

98% of the missions are the same thing, go to some spot and kill some people. Dead Eye is almost infinite so there is no threat at all of dying. Not to mention the snoozefest that is the horseback ride to that location in which, for half of the missions, is unskipable.

Breaking in horses is kinda dumb since most of them are worse then the one that is given to you. What's up with not being able to set up camp by hills or water?

I also wasn't feeling the story. Maybe if it actually went somewhere instead of me just being an errand boy for others and not continuing the plot. How many times do we have to hear why John is there? I'm 50% through the game and the main plot hasn't really changed. I'm still looking for a guy, but instead of looking for him here, I have to look for him over there.

I guess this is just one of those games where I am the odd man out, kinda like Borderlands.

Hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion. There are plenty of popular games I don't care for either. I just don't think this 640p/720p thing is a valid argument since you'd have to be super close to even notice the difference.

i play on a 32 inch Bravia and it didn't take much time for me to notice how blurry the game was as compared to the screen shots. i never notice these sort of things but RDR more than any other game I've played made it obvious.

I suppose it could be possible. Bravias are really good TVs and I don't play on one regularly so I can't say for sure. All I know is that it looks good enough for me and I really enjoy the game.

You guys want to check out the game that started it all for Rockstars current gaming vision? Look no further than Body Harvest on N64. Developed by DMA Designs (a.k.a. Rockstar North these days a.k.a. the ppl behind GTA 3) its an open world, sandbox type, do anything, hop in any vehicle sci fi thriller. Love that game.

Most of their comparisons are bullshit.

They use images from when something is moving thus creating blur and making it look a lot worse. Not to mention their scoring system is made up as they go and different for each game.

Seriously, what's going on?
We're talking about pixel counts and I get downvoted for saying that SD graphics take away from the atmosphere and experience of some games.
In other articles about the rumoured Wii HD every second comment is "Yes, I'm so tired of how bad the Wii looks on my 50" HDTV!"

It's not a standard resolution, but every news agency started reporting the 640p number after this was discovered. Here's 1UP's take:

While I really agree 101% with you, this must not be an excuse for Rockstar for not bringing the exact same game for both consoles, as they are familiar with the PS3 since.... 2006 or more, when they was developing the GTA 4 as a PS3 exclusive.

4 years of development is more than enough for any self respect developer, even more for the so called "king of free roaming genre". I hope Rockstar dont make the same mistake with The Agent.

What are you smoking?
They newer deweloped GTA4 as PS3 exclusive!
Dewelopment on PS3 lagged sewerly and was contributing factor to half year delay
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50937

The prroblem with Red Dead Redemption is that Rockstar reused GTA4 engine so for PS3 users ended with old GTA4 port faults the most visible being lower resolution.
At least after graphics cuts on PS3 in RDD the framerate went up to match superior version on X360...

It was never closing "real fast", but it was closing.

The gap was only growing in the US though.

As of last week, 360 WW numbers were higher than PS3 once again.

I was playing RDD, took a break because a friend of mine just beat Mass Effect II. So I'm like "lemmie finish this game already." put the game in my new slimmer 360, -Only to find out that it didn't copy my save files. I was a good 60% in easy and I erased my old 250 drive.

So, now no more RDD for the meantime.. I gotta play through MEII.
