I initially thought that Waluigi was the most creatively bankrupt character the Big N concocted (his name is WARIO+LUIGI!). Since I've grown fond of this purple-and-black-color-schemed character, I echo your sentiment.

It's actually a play on the Japanese word Warui, which means bad person, and Luigi. Of course, I'm pretty sure they thought it was cool that it was also a combination of Wario and Luigi also.

I completely agree. I think I'm one of the few people who actually liked Waluigi. I used him often in any game I could. He really should have been playable in Smash Bros Brawl.

I don't remember this clearly, but was Waluigi actually created by Nintendo? Wasn't he thought up by the company who made the mario tennis game he first appeared in?

@Metayoshi Actually, Wario's name is a play on Warui + Mario.

Waluigi, meanwhile, takes the Japanese word 'Ijiwaru' meaning short tempered, cross, etc.

Take Ijiwaru, split it in half, Iji-Waru, then reverse it. Waru-Iji.

And that's where we get the name Waluigi from!

So, no Mario on the Facebooks or Iphone/Android/WebOS Apps?

Sounds about on par with Nintendo..Its not like they need another billion dollars that those markets would give them...

Nintendo likes the control that comes from having the ability to design hardware to fit software. Nintendo wouldn't be the best third party out there, i think.

Why not? They sure as hell are the best 1st party out there.

What ever happened to Geist? That story kinda sucked but the concept would be an awesome one to revive.

Wasn't that a purely Nintendo IP?

Basically, no one liked it unfortunately and it got shelved.

I think if Nintendo did a Geist II, Eternal Darkness II, and remade Clu Clu Land and Nazo no Mursamejou, it might work.

I would love to also see a Hogan's Alley game that's like RDR but I'm asking too much.

Maybe?

I mean there was like a zillion trophies in smash brothers, I'm pretty sure nintendo has plenty of things to choose from that would make fans happy.

Well, during those years it would probably be less of a "Master Hand" and more of a "Novice Hand" or a "Premature Hand", so I don't know if that would really work.

If there is any publisher/developer that doesn't need new characters its Nintendo. They have a good amount of decent characters as it is now. They've generated at least 1 per generation with Pikmin and Wii avatars (sorta) being the last couple. I can't wait to play as Mii in the next Smash Bros game.

@Nintari now hold it right there. What about Chibi Robot, wasn't that a Nintendo 1st party? So in fact 2 new major IP characters were made for the gamecube(including pikmin) . And it also released a game on the DS if I remember

@Nintari

Chibi-Robo is one of the most twisted/depressing stories I've ever seen.

A guy spends all his money buying a toy robot for his daughter who dresses as a frog.

Besides that and Animal Crossing, I don't know what will make people slit their wrists faster.

The Skull Kid needs some love. One of the most under-appreciated characters ever. Just needs the Majora's Mask again to cover up that ghastly face.

He's so under-appreciated that no one gets his name right. It's really Stalkid (Stalk + Kid) but they changed it to "Skull Kid" for the US release for some reason.

Ok, seriously, the Mother series is RIGHT THERE! Make another one of those!

But if they absolutely HAVE to dust off some old characters, there are worse ideas than browsing through the Smash Bros. Brawl trophies. That trophy gallery was nostalgia-licious.
