It sounds like a mildly upgraded BC2, thats fine with me, but I am still waiting for the next "Modern Warfare" (from respawn studios not Treyarch)

@BigFNj

Yeah, definitely. Hoping Respawn uses the idTech5 engine on that badboy.

I thought IW built a proprietary engine for the Modern Warfare series (which Treyarch subsequently used in their last couple of games)? I'd expect they might spend a lot of the lead-in time on whatever they're producing to get a game engine going.

Though it's not entirely unprecedented for them to use id's tech. The first couple CoD games used a heavily modded Quake 3 engine, if I'm not mistaken.

@Architecture

IW's engine used for MW and MW2 is considered it's "own engine", but it's actually based on the q3 engine. In fact, every Call of Duty game ever has, at it's root, quake 3 engine code.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Respawn used idtech5 for their new game. It'd give it the graphical 'WOW' effect they'd want for a new franchise to push it into the market.
They really are great at taking an exceptional engine and building it up to what they want it to be, over time.

I would also expect that with a brand new studio (even if some guys came over from IW) it would just make sense financially to use another engine so they could work on content and get a game out the door and establish themselves. But again that's just my guess.

@okayplease

I got voted down for mentioning all the Mario Kart ripoffs? People actually liked those games? Wow...

@RPYoshi

Well, if two things are similar enough to draw attention, I think of it this way:

New one is worse - Ripoff
New one is about the same - Flattery
New one is better - Evolution

Games and systems play off each other and evolve. Considering only the tech, Move is pretty clearly a step forward, and will push the next Wii to be even better.

The only problems I have with this so far, is that the picture always freezes for a second just before you die. Its really annoying. Another thing that needs to be fixed is the physics. They suck. You almost always die with your hands up, and it just does not look realistic overall. Get Nvidia's PhysX or something, please. Euphoria would be insanely awesome, but I know they would never do that. Another thing I have a problem with is that you have to be dead-on accurate when using explosives such as grenades, C4, RPGs, and grenade launchers. The blast radius is seriously like two feet. I think they did this so you would have to really have to aim and it wouldn't be so noobish, but its just ridiculous to have a blast radius that small. The last thing is, the melee. Its not quite fast enough. The American's melee is a good speed, but the insurgent's melee is really slow. It gives them a HUGE disadvantage in a close quarters situation where the best option is to knife. It needs to be fixed. So, those are my only complaints. All of which could easily be fixed by the time the game comes out. I'm thinking I'll probably buy this game if those issues are fixed.

@acefondu Yeah kart games are a pretty direct ripoff. The difference is, nothings changing about the worlds here. There's no different cartoon universe. Both games have the same gameplay, as kart racers do, but here, the setting is the same, (modern day middle east), and so are the characters (us army soldiers/islamic extremists). So I mean, really, nothing at all is changing. AT ALL. I mean, you know? The kart games go from a mario universe to a sega universe to a crash bandicoot universe.

@acefondu Re: Mario Kart Ripoffs

Crash Team Racing (PS1) was a damn masterpiece and has yet to be topped as a cart racing game. I'll fight anyone that says otherwise.

Whats with all the whining? Its fun, there is problems but its far more addicting as then BFBC2 and more better and less annoying then MW2. It plays like a BFBC2 skinned MW2, which is great! The Beta is great, the final product will be better.

I somehow got into the beta and I am having fun. There are some hitches here (as it is a beta) but I feel like it will be a really great game. There is something odd about the hit detection, though - it seems like shots to the legs and chest sometimes don't register.

"Though Medal of Honor isn't entirely the same game as Modern Warfare 2 -- where Infinity Ward went right, on occasion DICE and EA LA have seen fit to go in the opposite direction, sometimes to the detriment of the experience."

Like charging an extra $10 at launch... smart move EA - I just decided to go back to COD: Black Ops over this. Originally I was swayed away from COD due to the ridiculous DLC prices, but I can at least avoid DLC. I'll wait til Medal of Honor reduces in price, which is pretty quick with EA titles.

I'm so disappointed. After the Home trailer I was so excited, but now... I don't want to play a reskinned CoD game.

Played the beta twice and I've given up on it. Don't get me wrong, I love me some BFBC2 and MW2 is only fun when I play with my buddies, but OMG! MoH is like the bastard child of Call of Duty and Bad Company. However this child seems to have gotten all of the worst traits of his parents. He was mistreated as he grew up, and became a homeless person who went insane, kicking and screaming while claiming to be in "The War." He was carted off to a mental hospital soon after.

But didn't the bigdogs of Infinity Ward start working on MOH if there long term rivals, DICE? That's what I thought happened. I hope EA somehow makes a P2P optional mode for people living too far from servers, coz last night I rage quit after shooting someone 3 times spot-on and then them turn around and kill me with the first two bullets of their UZI. Also last night when my team lost a match of rush (only just - sooo awesome) my xbox randomly restarted and put me on the dash (who's fault is that?!).

I think you can only get in the beta if you pre-ordered MoH or join the EA gun club and get chosen for an invite

I will continue to engross myself in BFBC2 and wait for the reviews on this one. I rarely buy a game these days before I see what kind of quality it delivers. Say what you will about meta reviews, they usually don't lie.
