Today's Portal 2 demos: propel and repel with gel

Parts six and seven -- the final two parts, mind you -- of the Portal 2 E3 video demonstration take a look at the mechanics of the game's new gels: Propulsion and Repulsion. As if anything could ever make Portal 2 repulsive! Ahem.

So, these gels: They're yet another new tricky (and likely toxic) product of the Aperture labs that just so happen to open up a variety of new platforming puzzles. Go on and watch the clips after the break -- they'll totally bend your mind. (Or maybe that's just the fumes from the gel. Yeah, probably.)

Repulsion Gel is almost as cool as the Portal Gun itself... If only Aperture labs was real... =/

In the interview with one of the guys working on it I quote "the aim is not to make the game harder" I think he didn't think that one through, but I LOVE it. Any game that tells you exactly what to do down to the letter is IMO boring.

Repel gel and propel gel sound awesome. I want some in my hair.

This game blows my mind.

How rad would it be if they had integrated this game with the next Half Life. Imagine removing the floor underneath enemies or sending vehicles through portals plow through structures.

I'd been holding in my excitement all week. That last video at 1:02 just did me in. I want this game. Now.

I have no idea what I just watched.

I started and finished Portal 1 today.
I mean yeah, it's very, very good, but I didn't find it to be that much challenging. But perhaps that's because I had played the flash version before :/

If you didn't like it, perhaps this isn't the game for you. Probably 99.9% of folks enjoyed the game and found some parts to be challenging.

This sequel looks more challenging, but if you didn't like the first I doubt the second is for you.

Oh no man, I explained myself wrong. I LOVED the game to bits! GLaDos, the portal mechanics, the developers commentaries explaining how they got the portal to work correctly, every little detail made the game more fun. It's just that the puzzles themselves were a bit too easy, at least to me. (However, some of the puzzle challenges that you can access from the main menu seem to be impossible xD)

I'm pumped for Portal 2 because, as you said, this sequel looks more challenging.

Pretty sure this game is going to break my mind. But I know when I beat levels without clues, I will do a happy little dance. Especially if/when there is an awesome Coulton-esque ending song.
