While at E3, we had a chance to speak with the always affable Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. That title means he's the man in charge of Sony's first-party software, which also means he's the man to ask about Team Ico's absence from the show (No Last Guardian? No Ico / Shadow of the Colossus HD remake?), Insomniac's multi-platform future, the responsibility of first-party studios in defining the potential of PlayStation Move, the oft-rumored Warhawk sequel, the new Twisted Metal game, and more.

Naw man, give him more credit than that.
This E3 prolly just had a bad batch of coke being passed around, rather than sars or swine flu.

Yeah- did you see how giddy he got when they asked about it. Like he had to FORCE himself not to say anything. And his emphasis on "a very long time" in regards to development.
Makes me almost positive we will see something at TGS!

Yeah. I agree with you.
Dear Joystiq, can we maybe get a text-version of this interview as well please? Thanks. :)

and Joystiq, fix the damn commenting system, it's not like you're not just posting articles that could've been written at E3 or anything...

Can't afford one?
If you call yourself a gamer, you owe it to yourself to buy one at any cost.
Even if this involves donating your left nut.

@imeNrique :: Maybe the guy is a teenager or someone with a lot of debt or can't get employed, don't say he is pathetic dude. The guy is pretty much saying he can't afford it but if they made these games available in HD for PS3 then he would have no choice but to spend the last bit of money he has because he loves them so much. It's kind of a type of self deprecating humor. (Ignore that entire comment if you're also making a joke:)

Well if they posted all this E3 stuff that they've been posting over the last few weeks on one day then they'd have hardly any articles to post now, and as such the ad revenue would've been less as the articles wouldn't be read as much if they were all posted at once.

@Sylath
He doesn't directly say, he just says they are aware of consumer interest in there being such a thing. Since Sony France recently put up an Amazon France listing for it, coupled with all of the allusions and inferences, I'd say it's a safe bet that it's coming. What sucks is that the Amazon listing was for June of next year, which is entirely too far away.

Agreed. There's a high probability that it's coming. I absolutely loved Shadow of the Colossus but never played Ico. I could've bought Ico once but I'm kind of a snob and will only buy used games with the original box art and manual in at least decent condition and some moron took a black marker and drew smiley faces and scribbled all over the cover art of Ico...so I didn't get it (it's not like the North American box art for Ico was that "awesome" anyway.).

Why's it take so long to do a HD conversion?

HD conversion means a complete porting of the code over to the PS3 instead of making the game work in emulation (which not all PS3's are capable of anymore, IIRC). It's a pretty daunting task, especially for a game that had problems running on the PS2. Honestly, the "delay" (it hasn't been announced, so it really isn't delayed) is likely due to the small team that has surely been assigned to the task. Neither SOTC or Ico were huge monetary successes, so they aren't going to spend a fortune to hire a big team to do the port (I doubt Team Ico is doing it directly).
As for whether or not it's going to happen; Amazon France already had (has? I haven't checked in awhile) a product page for "The Team Ico Collection". Amazon is usually well informed when they do this kind of thing (meaning if they put up a product page, a real product eventually comes) so I'm fairly certain it is going to happen.
I'm much more enthused over The Last Guardian though. Was it mentioned in the interview? The title of this story references it, but I didn't hear it mentioned in the interview (which may be because I'm listening while on a stationary bike from afar but...)

His English is actually pretty good. And really unless you're bipolar or have really bad headphones/speakers, I don't know why anyone couldn't understand what he's saying - it's totally crystal clear to me. I wonder how good the Japanese proficiency of most of the people who've commented on this article would be? Anyway, back to the topic - this is basically confirmation that the Team ICO Collection is indeed coming, and so validates all of the stuff we've heard thus far. Absolutely FANTASTIC news!

Agreed, for the most part. It is kind of odd for him to have a relatively thick accent despite having such great grammar, vocabulary and overall fluency. Regardless, I thought his English was crystal clear. I'm almost happy Joystiq didn't subtitle this, as his English is more than proficient to carry out this interview and offer us information.

A Ico / Shadow of the Colossus HD remake seems likely now, we know about twisted metal and a warhawk sequel (starhawk?) could already be in development. I want to go down to Sony's HQ, find the man responsible for these ideas and buy him many, many drinks.

@Ospov Right? I kept grabbing mine thinking I was receiving a message or something but after about the 4th time I heard interference, I paused the video to find it was Joystiq. How sloppy. Tsk, tsk. And not to mention the ringing and vibrating too, that woman could have stepped into another room or something to talk to whoever she needed to talk to. I found it very disrespectful to Mr. Yoshida that you would have all of this going off while he took his time to speak to you.
