Happens with every monster hunter game, ho-hum. imagine what would of happen if this game was on the Ds (with a suitable amount of power backing the hardware)

That'll be the thing to watch when 3DS comes out. If they get Monster Hunter, too, that'll pretty much be the end of the PSP line.

You think by now MS would have bought a Japanese developer to produce Japanese style games to win people over.

@Jamesexmachina I don't think even that would have worked. MS had, for a good while, a bunch of very good JRPGs that were exclusive and should have put the Xbox in the #1 slot, but because of the Japanese people's apparent lingering xenophobia of any product not made by them, this caused most of MS' exclusive catalog to go multi-platform. If you've been on this site for as long as I have, you'll have noticed that every now and then, the Xbox will get a serious boost in sales that will last for somewhere close to a month, and then, eventually, they'll drop off back to about 2,000 or so sold a week.

they did brought japanese exclusives, most didn't work out.
laterly it seems MS in-house is focused on Kinect titles
360 lifetime sales in Japan is about 1/4 of PS3, I'd say that's already a massive improvement.

They tried that with Mistwalker, who are now producing an RPG for Wii.

@Jamesexmachina Well, they pretty much did exactly that. Microsoft aggressively signed many Japanese publishers to contract deals bringing fan favorites to their console. Shooters, RPG's, J-pop games, you name it. They attempted to lockdown the hardcore market with exclusives in Japan just as they did in the US, the difference is, here, that strategy worked.

@PilzE: wait, um I agree there were a whole bunch of JRPGs on 360, but where does this 'very good' come from? I mean, wasn't the *best* of that bunch Blue Dragon? Yeah. OH, right! Xenophobia! Of course!

On another note: two Konami DS dating sims in one week? I guess because one is 'girl's side'...

Kinda annoys me...

PS3 cant have MH cause it be "too much", yet 360 can have a spinoff one. :/

It has to do with the fact that the Xbox has a PC structure while PS3 doesn't. Its an easier porting job thats cost efficient.

WTF? I thought that was why FFXIV was coming to PS3 and not the 360, because 360 was unlike the PC.

Someone's lying here.

And is it me or have the previous comments been filled with many grammar errors?

@Marco le Polo The 360 is the closest thing to the PC. Also, MS and Square are in talks for FF14 to be on the 360.

As much as I love MH, I sure wish we could get one that I could play without hand cramps.

Also, any new console MMO would be cool, but we will never see this in the U.S. Such a shame...

Oh well, back to the PSP we go, I'm sure.

Then I realized it was a Japan-only MMO. Dammit.

You do fight giant monsters. It gets rather pathetic when you're carrying one of the normal-sized weapons... hacking at the monster's toes.
They usually have something that makes them worth it (faster, more status-affecting), but it still takes you an eternity to bring a monster the size of a mountain... or even the size of a bus.

But yeah, Cloud would look normal amongst them.

The PS3 seems like it caters more to western audiences than Japanese ones.

Nintendo's two systems and the PSP are where its at for Japanese centric games.

I've been following Monster Hunter Frontier for a while. You gots them new monsters on top of what you've seen in the PSP games, with far more weapons and armor, etc.

What sucks the most is that it will never come stateside. Monster Hunter is not even half as popular in the US as in Japan.

@Nintari Your observation is true outside of Japan, but in Japan thats not really the case. For the reasoning behind my statement please see my response to @Jamesexmachina above.

Now if thats the perceived notion, that may hold some truth.

Yea titles like Killzone 2 & 3, Resistance 1 & 2, Infamous 1 & 2, Haze, Uncharted 1 & 2, Motorstorm 1,2, &3, and God of War 3 are so Japanese and they "challenge the mind".

Go hang out at the mall, and come back when you decide to stop idolizing the Japanese as a sophisticated people that want to challenge their minds and are the only human population capable of enjoying stories as you call them. Man those anime stories give Shakespeare a run for his money right?

I dig the idea of Monster Hunter on 360. Couldn't get myself to play it on PSP due to poor camera controls, but 360's got 2 analogs so... win.

Awesome... Good to know comments can still disappear in to oblivion on the new and improved Joystiq Beta.

Anywho, you're all living in a fool's paradise.

Monster Hunter is the Dynasty Warriors of the co-op dungeon crawler genre. These games evolve at a glacial pace. My mind will push my brain out of the back of my head if this 360 version is the least bit smoother to control than... every other Monster Hunter.

Yes, the classic controller offers dual analog sticks, but that doesn't mean Japan knows how to use them, yet. The camera controls are still fairly awful in Tri.

Rather than freely moving the camera, as you would in any number of other 3rd person action/rpg games, the right stick alternates between three preset camera placements: normal, looking at the sky, or looking at the ground.

I'm sure those flat PS2 textures will look super boss in 720p, though.

I dunno about you, but I don't find most Japanese stories that "moving".

Oh, there definitely are classics, don't get me wrong. And yeah, Hollywood-style stories run rampant in America. But don't act as if the Western stories are complete crap, and act as if Japan is perfect.
If you ever get over your Japanophile-attitude, you'd actually see that a lot of the "compelling" stories in Japan are just a different kind of immaturity when compared to Western immature stories. Both have large amounts of immaturity which both sides think are mature and amazing, but really, both can be thought of by a kid hitting puberty and getting confused at what to call themselves.

I'm a fan of Japan, and I used to be an otaku. But after I woke up, I realized the "West Side" of the world is friggin' awesome too. Just in a different way. Japan has its flaws, and most Japan-freaks turn away from those flaws in denial.

...go talk to a Japanese born-and-bred, a normal kind, the kind that has an interest in anime but honestly would rather not be associated with otakus - and facepalms themselves when they see foreigners (even Japanese born outside of Japan) idolize everything they do.
They're not better, the normal ones don't consider themselves better - they're different. Different tastes, spice of life.
