A new trailer for Rock Band 3, discovered on GameStop Italy's YouTube page, highlights many of the new and exciting features of Harmonix's upcoming sequel. You'll see the brand new Music Library, with more flexible sorting options. The trailer confirms the ability to import tracks from nearly every game in the franchise, including Lego Rock Band.
Most mesmerizing of all is the first direct-feed footage of the new "Pro" mode, which has you playing instruments like a real musician would. Is anyone else quivering at the sight of finger notations?
Update: The trailer has been removed from YouTube. We've replaced it with an embed from GameVideos.
Well that was fast, they already pulled the video... that must have been more pro then I can handle or something. A good thing Holland vs. Uruguay is about to start, otherwise I might have been sad.
Harmonix never sold the IP. They didn't own it in the first place. The Guitar Hero concept was originally created by RedOctane, who hired Harmonix to develop the game, which they based on their own Frequency/Amplitude games. RedOctane and Harmonix made a contract for two more games. Guitar Hero 2 was made. Then RedOctane was bought up by Activision, who told Harmonix about their milking plan. Harmonix said no, so Activision reminded them of their contract. So Harmonix half-assedly put together Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80's. Activision presented their milking plan instead to Neversoft, who promptly did a 540 Benihana and said "Sure, whatever".
@Coldplay619 On the one hand, I thank you for this info. On the other hand, you have further piqued my need to watch this video, and thus I must say, DAMN YOU SIR!
Why is the ability to export songs from Lego Rock Band being singled out in the article? You can already export the songs into RB2 so it's nothing new or special.
If I could export my Beatles: RB tracks on the other hand...
I have a Piano, an assortment of Guitars, a plethora of Bass Guitars, a Double Bass, a Cello, a Violin, a saxamaphone, multiple amplifiers, a cornucopia of microphones, and plenty of recording equipment and software.
I can't flipping wait for Rock Band 3. You're so not cool.
@Nintari You sound like the kind of guy that brings a guitar to a party, starts playing, and expects every chick to blow you because you can play the riff from Smoke on the Water.
Everyone I know that plays music, be it guitar, piano, sax, whatever; they love Rock Band. They're able to discern the difference between a video game and a musical talent, like most intelligible people are.
So while we enjoy our "make believe" fun, you can have a blast with your false sense of arrogance.
Let's see here.... More songs? We knew about..... Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody"* Jimi Hendrix - "Crosstown Traffic"* Ozzy Osbourne - "Crazy Train"* Spacehog - "In the Meantime"* The White Stripes - "The Hardest Button to Button"
BUT THEN WE SEE 20th Century Boy T.Rex 25 or 6 to 4 Chicago Midlife Crisis Faith No More Need You Tonight INXS Roundabout Yes Spinning Wheel Blood Sweat and Tears
But then: Another sequence, under the Import flipthrough, marked as "Previously Acquired"
Bad Romance Lady Gaga? Just Dance Lady Gaga? Meaning of Life Disturbed/Offspring/Monty Python? Monster Lady Gaga? Poker Face Lady Gaga The Game Queen? ....WTF??? Has Rock Band Gone Band Hero? Won't stop me from buying, tho.
I have a little problem here. This article doesn't show up anywhere on the main page of Joystiq. I was linked here from another website.
