Blizzard says its goal with these changes is to form "a new and different kind of online gaming environment -- one that's highly social, and which provides an ideal place for gamers to form long-lasting, meaningful relationships."

What a load of bollocks. Do they seriously expect people to swallow that?! One of two things has happened here:
1 - Blizzard are being extremely naive
2 - Activi$ion have found a way of making money off peoples real names.

Also lets not forget they blatantly lied when they said it would be optional.

@The Aquacharger Right, but I think as popular as the forums probably seem, they're probably not used by the majority. While a thousand people posting in a forum can seem like a crazy madhouse, WoW has _millions_ of players. Even if we wanted to be very conservative, and limit it to "very active, north american players" I bet we're still looking at tens of thousands, if not more.

Vorbis brings up a great point about the armory tie-in, but if Blizz wants to do this right, I'm sure they will figure out a way to defeat that. The Armory should be tied to character only anyway.

As much as I'd like to say I approve of this idea...

"If you outlaw anonymity, only outlaws will have anonymity."
