Today is July 7, a normal day for most human beings but a very special day for Bungie devotees. That's right, it's the seventh day of the seventh month, which signals the arrival of Bungie Day, along with a special present for Halo: Reach fans in the form of a new video from the folks at Rooster Teeth. Blood Gulch, probably the most well-remembered map in Halo history, returns and, as you'll see, it's both very familiar and very different (especially considering that you can leave the canyon).
The video also teases a new armor ability -- which could be a joke, mind you -- that allows players to create a holographic decoy. And hey, is Sarge using the jet pack and carrying the flag? That was a no-no during the beta. Check it out after the break.
... this is going to be epic. I have missed blood gulch oh so much. hopefully they allow you to cut off the bigger portion of the map if you want to play CE style.
I played the hell out of Blood Gulch multiplayer on the PC, and on the Xbox when the Halo 2 version came out. It's easily one of my favorite maps ever. It's sad that I'd be more excited for a remake than I am for new maps but... I am.
It's conceivable that one of the many options available is the ability to toggle whether flag carriers can use armor abilities, the way vehicle and turret operation could be turned on/off in Halo 3. It's just an option no one generally uses and one that never gets implemented in matchmaking.
I've heard that carrying the flag while using an armor ability is a customizable game setting though I'm wondering if they faked it for this video. Sarge looked a little too... stiff, while flying through the air.
Regardless it's all very cool and I can't wait to check it out. Looks like they borrowed some ideas from valhalla and turned one side into an open lake. Plus seeing the ring rising magnificently into the sky was a thing of beauty.
I don't think the new armor is a joke, look at that weird scarf he has on his neck, looks like a spy/stealth/saboteur type of fashion thing. Also, seems like that one ability that was in BioShock 2 where you could project the ghost thing.
@mcnichoj im just curious how the mechanic will work. do you leave you character and control the hologram? or does it send out a hologram walking aimlessly?
I wonder if they'll re-do Sidewinder from what they tried in Halo 3. Drop the snow, stretch it out, lower some of the mountains. Also I think this calls for a Warlock with several more levels.
Bungie has stated that you can use objectives(like a flag) with armor ability's in custom games if you set it to allow it. Also the hologram ability was mentioned in a magazine back in January.
