Way to excited for this game!

Looks like Nintendo is gonna compete with Nintendo when the 3DS comes out. Wii sales might wither down and they may have to start thinking about the Wii 2.

3DS wins both rounds, does an animality, turns itself into a Nintendog and mauls PSP ...in 3D.

the 3DS is more powerful and i'm assuming has media options like the DSi, so it beats the current PSP in every way possible basically. which means we need the PSP2 ASAP.

I think you mean '3DS vs PSP2 fight!' Sure, PSP2 isn't announced so will presumably not come out until some time after 3DS, but that's where the 'battle' is.

(I'm betting Sony will go 3D as well. And of course it'll have even prettier graphics... but can that compete with Nintendo first-party games and DS momentum? Doubt it.)

"High level models"
That usually means the models that they sculpt first and then scale back from to where they're actually usable on the target hardware and in the context of the rest of the assets.

That's an impressive starting point for a hand-held system, but they're not going to look as good as this might have initially made us think.

Actually judging from the demo, he could have been talking about the high detail models that are used only in extreme closeups and in-engine cutscenes, like you often see in other games. The character models in the RE demo looked PS3/360 quality as well, and that was real time too (of course that demo had very little going on in terms of environment detail etc).

doubt it. Kojima has never done that in there games. They've alway use game models for their cut scenes (ignoring PW which was done in a comic like style)

Dear Kojima,

That was a harsh blow to us when you said "The high level models are about the same quality as the stuff we made on the PlayStation 3."

You shouldn't knock on the PS3 like that. We know we cant think up anything ourselves or claim any kind of creative integrity to give our customers, but why you have to go and do that!? I'm telling.

Sincerely,
Sony.

Will have to believe that when I see it really.
Does look better than the PS2 though but that could just be because the pictures are so small.
Who knows?

That's hard to believe. The graphics on the screens look nice, sure, but they are still on the level of a good quality PS2 game, not PS3.

The name MSG3 on a portable will sell enough, there's no need to hype the graphics the machine can produce more than "it looks slightly better than it did on PS2"

He only said the models are better.

That doesn't really include textures, lighting effects, AA, amount of items on screen, etc.

The game looks great, but I'm with you, it will sell based on name and gameplay alone, there's no need to come out swinging with such wild remarks.

Meh when it comes to Kojima and graphics I'll prepare to be disappoint.

I remember when they were still testing MGS4 and he said that Snake's mustache had more polygons than a soldier from MGS3, but in the final product everything was toned down considerably. Oh, and gorilla Meryl, ugh.

I was going to come up with a biting, sarcastic response here, but really I got nothing. If you are seriously complaining about the GRAPHICS in MGS4 you may want to seriously re-evaluate both your standards and your priorities.

I hope the controls are PW-like or MGS4-like.

While I loved mgs3 aesthetically, playing the actual game often left much to be desired.

@Nofriendo I think that is a compliment. If he said something like "We got lazy and didn't spend much time working on the game, so it only looks as good as a PS3." then that would be a different story. I'm a 360 owner but I still know that stuff looks beautiful on the PS3 and I think thats what he meant, using it as a bar or quality.

I... uh... am not sure exactly what you're getting at in your last post. What I do know, however, is that I want the word 'fanboy' to be annihilated. Destroyed. Banned from any use in any context whatsoever. Taken out of every post in every site and erased from our memories and the annals of time forever. Now.

Who's with me?

THIS.

The biggest (and only) complaint idiots had with the game is switching camo. Now you can probably do it in real time. I do wonder how they will do the camera though. Maybe on the touch screen?

I'm so... sooo excited for this. 2 of my top 5 games ever randomly being redone on the 3DS (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory). It's like Nintendo read my mind.

Well they did do a main game on the SNES, and a main game on the Gamecube.

Sure they were both ports, but at least in the case of MGS The Twin Snakes it was a vastly improved port.

I'm a little curious about how he says "MGS3's story can't change". Does this mean the game will use the same cutscenes? Will there be any new scenes at all? He talks at the same time about wanting to "tell the story of the Boss again", so I would gather from THAT that he IS planning on adding new elements and fleshing out the story more. I hope he is, anyway.

A caveat to my previous statement: I would like to see Kojima rework, expand and/or flesh out some of the story elements from MGS3, but please not in the same way he did in MGS4. I don't think I could sit through anything like that again.

It will, unfortunately, be easier for me to find co-op players who have a 3DS (I imagine) than my PSP...

And! If the 3DS really does come with that upfront-cost data connection, it will be even easier! (Right? The developer wouldn't have to create/manage specified servers?)

@manobon:

They haven't announced it, but as far as I can tell from the interviews etc, 3DS connectivity is essentially the same as DS - wi-fi plus its own local networking. There might be changes to the Nintendo servers but it's basically the same.

The 'big' new networking feature is basically tag mode (where you walk around with the system in sleep mode and it exchanges Pokemon if you pass by somebody else doing the same thing). For tag mode in DS, you had to have the game cart in the system, so it was pretty useless. In 3DS, this will be a system feature so you can have tag mode for all your games working at once, without having the cartridges in; presumably making it much more likely that it'll actually work.
