I think its pretty unfair how people have pretty much bashed on the PSP since it came out. And before you call me a fanboy, I have all 3 current gen consoles and all 3 current gen handhelds (iphone, DS, PSP)--I may be a geek with too much money to throw around, but I'm not a fanboy. :)

The PSP still pushes more polys than the 3DS (based on the tech specs that have been leaked), but has a smaller fill rate, and doesn't have the newer shader tech of the 3DS. UMDs are basically the same size of the 3DS carts (around 1.5 gigs). The combined screen sizes are comparable (although the 3DS will be outputting many more pixels since it has to render the top screen twice). The PSP has always had full media support, has a reasonably large library of quality titles (God of War, Daxter, both Metal Gears, LBP, etc), and through firmware updates, has a web browser with flash support (take that, apple!).

My point being, the PSP had the basic gaming hardware of the 3DS on the streets 6 years before the 3DS was announced.

So why would Sony put out a PSP2 when their hardware is *still* comparable to their competitors? Wouldn't it make far more sense for them to continue investing in hardware tweaks and high quality games?

I'd like to see Nintendo finally get serious hardware-wise with the 3DS, while Sony and Apple continue to tweak their offerings. In the end, the consumer would win such a battle. :)
