Wow. An article that combines Console Vs PC *AND* Move Vs Kinect.
This should be epic.

Judging by the comments you've made in the short time you've been here I'd say you are just the accelerant to get the flames started.

iuno, if the game combined voice with guestures and then also used a 360 controller at the same time, i could really see it being well done using kinect. we just have to try new things, step out of the paradigm.

really unexpected though, seeing as though they were going to launch for microsoft surface too.

Not too unexpected given their already long development cycle, Kinect would take a lot more time to implement carefully.

A few idea's I have for RTS with Kinect:
Pinch to zoom - but with your hands, change you hand into a fist to physically drag the screen around (similar to black n white), a push down motion to select groups of troops - with an already selected group this will be special ability (C&C) or attack an enemy troupe [got this idea from Child of Eden]. Touch your ear to voice chat, maybe activate video chat with the opposing commander in the corner (C&C).
Voice selection for groups ('Group 1', 'Group 2', etc) or troop type (Select Spy)

This would all require a lot of time to implement. No need to fan the flames Ubi.

@st3v3n Bad enough with a controller.. it's a horrid thought poking troops to attack, or move around.. it could end up like Dance Central #fail

sorry to be clear i was saying that this will work well with move because it is closer to a mouse input then a controller would be.

I don't see how any RTS can be played without a keyboard. The number of shortcuts a typical RTS uses is mind boggling. Any console RTS is severely handicapped.

Meh, never really considered Pikmin an RTS. You're kind of right though, the only major difference is you're not commanding the battlefield, you're commanding only 1 area. If you put your Pikmin to auto work, you have to come back to see how they're doing.

The thing is few of us were interested in playing games about playing guitars, but hey.

The thing is, most 'hardcore' Move titles sans Sorcery (kinda) are all Move supporting titles, but I'm guessing from your reactions that that's what you want to play your hardcore games with from now on.

Back on topic, It really isn't hard to implement Kinect controls into an RTS, though it would take a considerable amount of time which I think is the problem here, this game has already been in development for a while.

They specifically said in the article that Kinect can offer a similar experience to Move but the stumbling block is it requires you to stand up. Are you suggesting that they're intentionally lying about the products capabilities to cover up their own inefficiencies as developers? I find that hard to believe and I'm more apt to think that what MS sent out was carefully worded PR spin. You never saw the word games in that press release, just the word "experiences."

MS call everything an Experience.

I don't see the argument, if the input for the dashboard apps is your hands, why can't that same input be used in a game?

Forget what we have seen so far, most third party Kinect or Move titles are concepts, the first party stuff is the way the companies are promoting their products.

@BlackedOut read the press release:

"Kinect can be used while sitting when an experience is developed with sitting in mind"

Microsoft pointed to navigating the Dashboard, along with using the ESPN, Zune and Video Kinect apps as "experiences where we expect people to be sitting."

"natural for Kinect games to be designed to get you off the couch: dancing, running, dodging, bending and kicking."

Johnny is again absolutely right, they use experience to denote sitting down and Kinect games to get you off the couch..

If designed for the kinect it would be a Kinect game which would surely mean that it must have to "get you off the couch" to play it, which is about as lame as it can get for an RTS..

They do use the word game and when using the word game they mention the following:

"natural for Kinect games to be designed to get you off the couch: dancing, running, dodging, bending and kicking."

E3 is a presentation.
They play Gears standing, they play Halo standing, does that mean I can't play them seated too? (this is how I view your logic)

Like I said, Microsoft can only speak for itself, and because they are trying to push Kinect as a motion peripheral their trumph card is that it does full body, in order to demonstrate that (and set an example) all their 1st party games are full body.
The only things they can show is the stuff they intended to be done whilst seated, like the NXE stuff.

@BlackedOut -- Ok but why do they make glass fish tanks for people to play a racing game like joy ride and not put a comfortable sofa in there ? Answer that one, why has none of the press videos so far shown any one playing kinect/natal sitting down ? Explain that one then..

Also just FYI, how many exclusive games has Ubisoft published for Microsoft, wasnt splinter cell a ms only affair.. They originally demoed the ruse on the microsoft surface just to demo the surface off for microsoft

A publisher that is publicly in bed with Microsoft claims they couldnt make their game work because it would need the players to stand are wrong because you say so ? Seriously have you even tried to develop for it ? You have an honest publisher, explaining the reason but its too much for you to accept..

And whatever happened to Surface anyway? MS still selling it?

Surface seems like a very clunky way of doing what a tablet does. And it's furniture. It will be obsolete but difficult to replace.

You can put a tablet on a table for $500.
